it's dizzying bc genuinely all it would take is letting those two do what they do best and react off each other with fewer distractions and less haphazardly quirky editing... the scenes are already there like the shy goodbye hug and the guilty eye contact over the broken jesus and the fireplace and bedroom scenes and the forest argument and their first meeting and even some scenes under geraldine's watchful eye... its actually crazy how much more noticeable the chemistry gets with one change such as clicking the fucking mute button or picturing what it actually felt like for them to stand (or kneel) so close without all the wacky camera movements and surrounding chaos. the story of their mutual attraction is literally already there bc even with jud's self-censorship he spends so much time glancing down at blanc's lips and walking around like a ball of frustration eyes pleading shoulders hunched mouth slightly open... its crazy its like they took hays code era comedy and 00s queerbait and squarshed the sensuality out of it but both these actors are so intuitively sensual that its all still there. its muted but its there. if it wasnt so muted it would be visceral but visceral is the last thing the people in charge of tone and framing were going for. its such a shame rian is terrified of being controversial in any way bc i think he would be pretty good at it like he straight up wrote all this and then cast it and then directed it i cannot imagine he is blind to the subtext when he himself put it there and chose homotron 1 and 2 to embody it. @ rian fire your quirky editor join my emo band
