So many dog owners are practically allergic to doing anything to alleviate human anxiety around their dog, even things that would greatly benefit the dog like keeping it leashed and not bringing it into high stress environments* without cause. If a friend told me they were afraid of cats, I’d tell them it is best we meet outside of my home because that is a completely reasonable accommodation. There are so many horror stories about someone being told another person is afraid of dogs and repeatedly putting them in situations where they have to be in close proximity to a dog without that person’s consent because they think it’s funny or because ‘My dog is such a good dog. It’ll definitely change their mind about dogs. This is like impromptu exposure therapy.’ and it makes everything worse.

Someone being frightened and on the verge of a panic attack at your little Shih Tzu mix may seem like an amusing overreaction to you but those bitches (pun absolutely intended) do bite and the safest thing to do for that person and your dog is to keep them separated. I was gonna say 'like WW2' but then rapidly remembered that neither of the existing world wars involved like. much of any direct damage to civilian populations either because America's eternal wars haven't touched its own soil since like the 1860s. except for Pearl Harbour, which was literally One Attack in the whole of WW2 (and which was also primarily targeting a military base. and was in a colonized nation far from the mainland USA). I am not kidding if you look up 'attacks on American soil' every single thing since 1900 except individual attacks (Pearl Harbour and 9/11, basically plus a couple of border skirmishes with Mexico) is like 'America was attacked In The Gulf States' or 'America was attacked In Asia'. like mate where is the US? you can't count attacks on military bases as 'attacks on US soil' unless you need to bulk out the list which. look at the history.

Like imo one of the reasons the US is so comfortable being leisurely belligerent against Literally Any Country In The World is that it's been literally well over a century since the fight actually came to them. why WOULD the US government stop being blindly aggressive when the only costs are financial?

because. war is so abstract and foreign. because it's spent 150 years constantly happening Over There and only involving Americans who are in the military. foreign wars don't register as a threat because they're NOT a threat to Americans (the only Real People) and the way in which they're frightening is the abstract possibility that the other party might at some point bring America actually into the war. which has basically never happened so it's this vast unknown threat.

similarly yes you are correct WWII was a nuclear war. so far the only one. a war in which the US made the decision to kill over 200,000 people Over There on a different continent and then spent the next 80 years making sure nobody else would be able to either retaliate or do anything similar. And the American (and Western) relationship to nuclear arms remains primarily not 'Jesus Christ I cannot believe America killed close to a quarter of a million people in a civilian centre with one set of orders' but 'oh noooooo what if this means we have to mitigate our aggression in case they do something like this BACK TO US'.

so. again. my point. war in the American cultural imagination remains an abstract thing that THEY do to OTHER PEOPLE where the concept of any enemy action reaching people in civilian centres is so completely abstracted it just becomes a boogeyman and apparently we should still be talking about the 7 American civilians that were killed in a war that claimed in the region of 6-13 million civilian lives in Europe, Africa and Asia.

- Meanwhile here in Finland, in a country that not only shares lot of its border with Russia, but which has been colonised multiple times by it (and Sweden), and only got free from it in 1917, only still having to fight it in WW2 and losing parts of our country to them; Our buildings still have build-in bomb shelters to this day. From schools to housing, from shopping malls to churches. My apartment building has one, with up to date information of what to do in case. The in case is never specified, because 99,999999% of chances it is going to be Russia who's bombing us.

I know beside my apartment building, 3 shelters near me (plus the ones near my parents in different city). Not even in a just in case, but because they are publicly, like any normal street name sign, just pointed with their name on a sign post. I just happened to read them whilst going to work, so now I know where shelters are, just in case I'm nearby if something happens.

- Yanks are crying about gas prices? We've have had conversations, at a fucking work team meeting, where our manager just casually reminded us to have drinkable water, flashlights, candles, batteries, dry food, first aid etc, just in case.

- A casual middle of the week meeting where we went over the shelters nearby, not to mention the one our work place has. I'm a fucking janitor, and not a fuckass ceo of this or that importance, but my prepping, even in knowledge, will help me and others near me.

- A year into war on Ukraine, my neighborhood granny, who lives in a nearby Rintamamiestalo*, that in the case, she doesn't want to leave her pets (they are not allowed in a shelter, not even small ones), so she will stay in her own cellar (not bomb-proof). I jokingly asked if I could come with my pets too, and she jovially said yes! We weren't really joking, at all.

(*fun fact! This literally translates to battle front line men housing, or, Housing for men of the (battle) front lines, which were build, you guess it, for front line men and their families after WW2 because, you guess it, a shit ton of our housing had been bombed down in the war!)

- There's old trees nearby, that are protected from being cutdown, because they still have bullet holes in them from the previous war, and serve as a reminder that we survived. Yay!

- Sometimes, when we at work muse about our future, like will our company still have their contract renewed with the place we up keep after x amount of years and so do we still have a job then, we can use the dark humor perk and casually say "Well if Putin attacks, thats one problem less to think about" implying we're all dead, or theres so many casualities that everyone gets a job. Yay!

- Yanks with their usa centric world, have their own problems, not arguing that, but I do hate that their trigger happy momey and power hungry leaders are one melt down tantrum away from destroying the world even more than they already have except they don't need the tantrum because they are just that greedy and gluttonous.

- Yanks make army and war propaganda movies for glorifying the past and future wars - we have three movies of the same WW2 book Tuntematon Sotilas ( Unknown Soldier, 1954), one made in 1955, one 1985 and the latest in 2017. The 1955 is black and white and was considered not only patriotic to watch, but eduational too, to showcase how horrible war is. It got its first televized showing in -67, got sprodicly shown in tv up to 1999, and from 2000- to this day, its been televized every year.

There are other war movies, like Manila Köysi, that have more humor in it, but you know, in the dark way like wondering if its morally okay to eat a pig thats been fed enemy soldiers bodies, considering you are very hungry? Its also about WW2. Recent movies Sisu and Sisu2 are about killing nazies john wick style when you're already lost all, and now they want the gold you've dug. The horror movie Sauna, happens during WW2, and goes over the literal war crime the protagonist committed which still haunts him.

- Our WW2 media rarely if ever glorifies war, outliers non-included like maybe pulp books that I haven't read and aren't main stream, or Tom of Finland porn that fetishize the army looks.

- Yanks have needed to make fantasy scifi movies of war on their literal soil, like Independence Day, or whatever the fuck movie was starring aussie Chris Hemsworth.

Hyökkäys means Attack. The two headed eagle represents Russia, which is trying to take away Finn-Maiden's book of law. The artist had to escape Finland, because the painting was against Russia's plan of indoctrinate Finland into Russia.
