Exquisite corpse like music video composed of youtube embedded video.

SpamPaint transforms comment spam – which pollutes weblogs, annoys bloggers, and has the aim to manipulate Google‘s search rankings – into generative graphics. Comment Spam is collected at a few selected blogs in the blogosphere. The comments and the websites they are linking to are then analyzed by a php-script. Afterwards this data is used to generate graphics with another php-script. The graphics being generated are of a rough, pixelated, and very much web-like aesthetic. There are two motivations behind SpamPaint: to win something from an annoying situation, and to examine the aesthetics of comment spam and the associated businesses.

“Search by Image” is a series of works analyzing Google's image search of the same name. This live version documents a real-time recursive search that began with an empty, transparent image. Each image is chosen by Google's “search by image” algorithm as the one looking most similar to the previous image. Every time somebody is on this page, the recursive search continues. This accelerated video show the script processing the search through 2951 images.

Live coding for a music video

Sikuli Script automates anything you see on the screen. It uses image recognition to identify and control GUI components. It is useful when there is no easy access to a GUI's internal or source code.

Replicate is a prototype for a desktop virus. The idea came while thinking about visualizing panic reactions in human societies. The more the user clicks, the more pixels replicate themselves, the more chaotic the picture looks.

Jed's Other Poem is a music video for Grandaddy's song of the same name. This music video was created by programming simple text animations on a vintage 1979 Apple ][+ computer; a computer so old that it is only equipped with 48K of RAM (far less than your mobile phone), contains no hard drive or mouse, and only types in majuscules. Music by Grandaddy. Video concept and execution by Stewart Smith. Cinematography by Jeff Bernier. Released in September 2005—well before Portal's Still Alive music video finale.
