as soon as she hears susie’s voice from behind her , the deer freezes up , head snapping around to turn to the other monster . the change of tone in her voice catches her just as offguard as her voice itself did in the first place , what could she be …

and then she continues and oh , oh gosh , is this happening ? susie , the badass bully of her dreams , is asking her to head to the lake after school with her ? this - this has to be another dream , right ? she kicks the back of her leg with her hoof and nope , that’s pain . this is real . cheek fur reddens and nose begins to lightly glow as she just . stares at susie for a moment , processing , before responding .

“ OF COURSE !  . . i-i-i mean , i’d love to ! faha . . “

“ i can throw them ! with you ! ! show the water who’s boss ! ! ! “

If Susie notices Noelle kicking herself in the leg, she doesn’t comment on it. Maybe she thinks it’s just a Reindeer Thing. But she does notice Noelle’s blush and her glowing nose, and she can’t help but comment on that.

“Hah. Your nose looks bright enough to guide Santa or whatever.” Smooth. She’s a bit surprised by the enthusiasm with which the other girl answers, yet she still doesn’t understand why. Obliviousness 1, obvious signs of a crush 0.

     *  you  are  unable  to  fight  back  the  grin  that  pushes  itself  on  to  your  lips.  susie  may  be  unpredictable,  but  she  is  innovative  in  ways  you  can  appreciate.  her  energy  is  always  contagious,  and  as  a  response  you  can’t  help  but  listen  intently  to  her  “fuckin’  awesome  idea”  in  which,  you  have  no  doubt  it  is!

      *  ‘that’s  fucking  genius.’  you  respond  positively,  cussing  in  the  same  energy  she  did  to  really  show  how  genuine  you  are  about  the  idea.  ‘thing  is  though,’  you  pause,  thinking  about  your  very  recent  discovery  regarding  the  items.  ‘not  everything  can  turn  into  darkners  in  the  supply  closet.  do  you  remember  the  chalk  noelle  gave  you  the  other  day?  yeah,  i  kept  it  and  when  we  went  into  the  dark  world,  it  turned  into  light  candy  instead  of  a  person.’  and  then  you  ate  it  with  no  hesitation  in  battle.  oops,  you  should  apologize  for  accidentally  eating  noelle’s  heartfelt  present  someday.

      *  not  today  though.

       *  ‘so  we  gotta  be  smart  about  what  we  throw  in.  unless  you  want  to  see  how  many  food  we  can  get  from  throwing  in  stupid  stuff,  then  fuck  yeah  let’s  go  toss  everything  we  see.’

The dragon monster’s grin widens at Kris’s response, glad to hear that they’re on the same page. Come to think of it, she does remember Kris eating that light candy in a battle...she has a brief pang of jealousy, and then decides she doesn’t care too much. She’d probably eat candy Kris was given as a gift too. Don’t wanna be a hypocrite.

“Food, huh? Now you’re speakin’ my language! Chalk turns into candy...maybe rocks will turn into burgers or something. Throw a plate in there and it becomes a pizza. Man, we’ve gotta try this now. I mean, we either get new friends or we get food. Sounds like a win-win to me.”

Susie’s found herself spending more time down in Castle Town recently. Even though it’s not the world she’s from, it’s the world she finds herself...almost more comfortable in. She’s not judged as much. She doesn’t have many expectations to live up to, and the ones she does are ones she can excel at.

It almost feels like home, especially when she’s around Ralsei.

It’s break time, and most of the school’s students are wandering the hallways. A certain purple monster is leaning back against some lockers - probably none of which are hers - and she waves Kris over the moment she sees them walking nearby.

“Hey, Kris.” There’s a mischievous tone in the dragon monster’s voice - she’s definitely planning something. “You used to prank Noelle all the time, right? What works best on her? I kinda wanna scare the hell outta her and I need the advice from an expert.”

She’s in one of her usual hangout spots, resting her back against a tree with her arms crossed as she watches the one major road that goes through Hometown. She’s not looking for anything in particular - watching the cars go by is just more interesting than pretty much anything else she could be doing. The late fall air is already chilly, and she’s glad she’s a dragon monster and not a typical, non-fire-breathing lizard monster. She’d be frozen solid if she was.

She watches a few people walk past. Some monsters she doesn’t know by name - a small frog, Catti’s dad, a human-

Wait.

“Hey, Kris!” She smiles as she approaches them, but it’s not any ordinary smile. It’s the smile or someone who just had a terrible idea. “I just had a fuckin’ awesome idea.”

“Hey, Noelle.” Her voice is quieter than normal, a bit less...well, abrasive. “I was wondering...do you wanna, like, hang out after school? We could go into the lake and I could see how many rocks I could throw across the water.” Or just into the water. Sorry, Onion. “And you could...do whatever nerd stuff you like. Like reading books, or...something.”

Even though it wasn’t her first visit to Castle Town, Susie found herself entranced by the sights just as much as she had been the first time. Rows of bustling buildings, a huge castle towering over them all, and in the distance, a towering pillar of pure darkness, rising up into the sky with no apparent end. She’d never seen anything like it until a few days ago, and she still thought it put everything in Hometown to shame by comparison.

She looks down at the fluffy goat boy next to her, He was an excellent guide to the town - she felt like she almost knew her way around by memory already.

“...this place is pretty fuckin’ cool,” she grins. “How long’s the castle and everything been around, anyways? Y’know, like. Was it before or after the fountain?”

She pauses, and then laughs.
