as an artist, person, and owner of a small clothing brand i will always be fiercely pro-human.

that means our clothes will always be designed by and for people, from our initial concepts, to our patterning and grading, to the art made by me and our collab artists that gets printed on the fabric.

that means that our clothes are made to be comfortable and practical for every day use. that means having real, functional pockets, good quality fabric and construction, and sewing that doesn’t cut corners to save money. that means making clothing that won’t fall apart after a couple washes.

that means grading our sizes, both straight size and plus size, on real bodies and using data from over 2000 of our actual customers to make sure that our garments fit, to make sure we take into account how clothing looks and feels on normal human bodies, not just laid flat on a table, or on clothes hangers or on professional models. that means making clothing that can stretch to fit throughout daily weight fluctuations, it means including features like expandable hip gussets on “masculine” style shirts because style is not prescriptive of gender, sex, or body type. it means remembering that people have bellies and thighs and hips and arm fat.

it means choosing fabrics that are well made and feel good, even when they cost more, because people have textural sensitivities. it means testing how our garments look and feel not just while standing or walking, but while sitting, because the body sits differently than it stands and something that is comfortable while standing may not be while sitting, and many people spend most of their lives sitting. it means remembering that bodies are are diverse and beautiful.

and it means that the people who make our clothes work in safe, clean environments and are fairly compensated. it means that the materials those workers handle are safe for human exposure. it means we do our due diligence to work with factories that are certified for their ethical labor and safe working environments and materials.

being pro-human means caring at every step of creation: for the designers and artists who come up with the ideas, for the weavers and sewists who make those ideas into real clothing, and for the customers who wear those clothes.

I don't usually reblog with my own commentary, but Maya's skirts and other clothes are always impressively thought out, with gorgeous designs and the functionality is real. I've got a handful of skirts from the last manufacturer, both printed and the solid viscose, as well as some crop tops, a dress, and a petticoat of superb quality that has absolutely replaced the black one I used to wear. I haven't been able to buy their recent box pleated skirts, or new releases, but I'm really looking forward to seeing what the upcoming printed cotton skirts are like. If you like fun or femme fashion, I can't recommend them enough. All six of you who will see this post, please tell people about this brand! Buy some for yourself, your wife, your friends! 😂 @mayakern, if you see this, thanks for fighting the good fight, for putting so much care into your products at every step of it's creation and delivery, and for keeping your chin up during the harder times. I've been tagged in this a whole lot now. I have reservations about dignifying it with an answer at all, because the art/advert is so clearly AI generated. However, as this post brings no traffic to the actual source itself, I feel like it's okay to at least identify what we're looking at. And I think almost all of these can be identified:

January - Agalychnis callidryas. Of course. AI loves popular animals, and perhaps no frog is as iconic as the red-eyed treefrog. February - Trachycephalus resinifictrix March - probably supposed to be Dendrobates auratus, but honestly looks more like a Ranitomeya April - I think this is supposed to be Odorrana? It certainly looks like it. May - any of the many green frogs in the family Ranidae. May be Aquarana or Pelophylax, but could also be many others. June - Maybe Litoria caerulea? but not chubby enough July - I think the AI was trying to represent a Pelobatrachus nasutus, but had arbitrarily decided it wanted only green frogs and accidentally landed on something like Gastrotheca guentheri? August - Some hylid frog, almost certainly based on either Dryophytes or Hyla September - Any of a number of green toads, possibly genus Bufotes October - Ceratophrys cranwelli or C. ornata November - No idea. Could be any number of species. But given that when you ask ChatGPT for a list of ten random frogs, it almost always includes Pyxicephalus adspersus, I guess this could be a young individual of that species. December - A glass frog, family Centrolenidae. AI is *obsessed* with Hyalinobatrachium, so it's probably a member of that genus.

As for which one is the friendliest, I have no idea, but I think it is fairly clearly the Ceratophrys that is the least friendly/most likely to actually try to hurt you.

😍 Thank you! Yes, this is a REALLY weird and extremely AI ad. I don't even know what it went to because I didn't click through. Its meaning must remain a mystery. Or perhaps the meaninglessness makes it haunting.

There was no doubt in my heart that Mister October, the Ceratophrys, would be the problem child. But truly, frogs don't owe anyone anything, and I love them all equally. They are perfect.

Like, Grace is in the bathroom, shaving, the curtain pulled to the side and suddenly he stops and says "stop touching my stuff". Rocky, frozen, somewhere behind him, can't fathom how Grace sensed that. He was so quiet. The razor is so loud. Grace's still facing away from him. What the fuck.

It's already been remarked upon that if ATLA got made today it would trigger a Chernobyl level anti-woke meltdown the likes of which has never been seen before but no, really, can you imagine how Katara would be received today? We made the dueteragonist of our action series a woman of color who basically carries the entire rest of the cast on her back the whole way and is one of the strongest characters in every sense of the word. She's also the voice of compassion and moral center of the entire show who stands up for what's right moreso than anyone else. She literally fights a literal patriarchy. All in addition to getting arguably the most complex character writing. Y'all motherfuckers could not withstand Katara.

They will notice what matters to their goal, fear, desire, training, wound, or obsession. A jealous character notices hands. a hungry character notices food. A soldier notices exits.
