You’re Rex. You’re King. You’re Duke! You’re Boss! I’m Chief. We’re a pack of scary indestructible alpha dogs. You’re talking like a bunch of housebroken… pets.
ISLE OF DOGS (2018) dir. Wes Anderson
I re-watched this tonight and it still stands up as one of the best Wes Anderson films, certainly one of his funniest and one of the most visually inventive.
Artist Tomas Barcelo casts figurative steampunk sculptures that fall at the intersection of classical relic and futuristic vision.
These are so cool.

I want one.
There are few TV places that I'd rather hang out than the coffee shop in Frasier.

This is a remake of an older sketch because I lost the original file.
Maculate | Mint Royale - Singin' In The Rain
I went looking for the classic VW advert, and found Maculate's video for the full song, which is wonderful.
Licorice Pizza (2021)
This was a great film, and one of the funniest of recent years. Loved it.
Boring test for something more interesting that I’ll try and post in a few days.
Incredible stuff, perhaps the best of all the Love Death & Robots animations.

Back from the dead with a 4 year old video! But it is a most excellent video, for a great tune.
Today I learned the name of the Tintin drawing style.
On Repeat: One Trick Ponies from the new Kurt Vile album. Love it.
Emma Stone in Maniac, 2018
The trailers weren’t great, and the first episode was lumpy, but I really liked Maniac in the end. It had probably the highest ratio of weirdness/goodness of any TV show since Legion.
"The fall TV season" lacks the luster it once had, but this autumn there may be more promising new series to watch than ever before.
His next is a three-part AMC miniseries (it’ll air on the BBC in the UK) starring Alexander Skarsgård, Michael Shannon, and Florence Pugh, whose name you’re going to be hearing a lot more in years to come. Taking a break from Carré’s usual Cold War backdrop, The Little Drummer Girl takes place in Greece in the 1970s, set against the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Oh, and Oldboy director Park Chan-wook will direct the entire series.
Good grief! I had no idea this was coming and now I can’t wait for it.

On Repeat: The new Maribou State album. It’s reminding me heavily of Black Sands by Bonobo, which is a v good thing.
The last 3 months in good games
I’ve been catching up with my Steam backlog recently and have been on a run of pretty excellent games:
Pyre - Currently playing this, which is an extremely colourful psychedelic visual novel/fantasy sports game - a combination which really shouldn’t work, but emphatically does here. I’m looking forward to getting further into it.
Hollow Knight - I bought this when it came out and really didn’t enjoy the first dour hour or two, so put it to one side. However, I stuck with it this time and enjoyed it more and more. The Greenpath level in particular is a joyful standout.
INSIDE - I think that this is one of the best games I’ve ever played. It’s best to go in without knowing anything about it, as I did, so I’ll just say that it has an incredible overall design & atmosphere, and plays like a cross between Ico and Limbo.
Dead Cells - As previously mentioned, this is rather good. I’d still be playing it now if it weren’t for Steam Controller issue.
Steamworld Dig 2 - The first Steamworld Dig game was a bit of a grind, but Steamworld Heist was a blast, and Dig 2 continues the upwards trend. It’s short but has a lot of character, and is really colourful & enjoyable while it lasts.
