she surprises him from behind, raising his arms as if he were still the little kid she'd visit. her gaze then shifts to the flak jacket next to him, before a bright smile curls on her lips. of course her subordinate got promoted.

     “    oh,” temari begins as she glances down at the child. the brightness and curiosity that light up mirai’s eyes, she realizes, is one of the more hopeful things she’s witnessed. that being said, it’s never been any question that she meant so much to shikamaru. her features soften, and looking at mirai, she gestures at a nearby chair. smiling and moving to reach into shikadai’s crib, she says, “you can sit there, okay? and, i’ll hand him to you.”

             " Okay ! "

      When she heard Shikamaru and Temari were expecting, she'd been preparing for the day she'd be able to meet their child. Now that he was born, she'd been begging to see him— to give him the same amount of care that his parents had shown her. First step being to hold him, of course.
