First Sergeant of the ZPD

 But they made it there and she stepped out of the car and into the chilly night, ears picking up the waterfall easily as she waited for Jack to join her outside the vehicle. Now that they were here she could finally tell him about her mission. So she locked up the car and made her way to the entrance where she placed her paw on a pad and it in turn scanned it. A door opened once her identity was confirmed and she led the way through it, waiting for him on the other side.

Well, the good Trevor Hedberg of the University of Tennessee, a grad student, is teaching a course called Contemporary Moral Problems, and as a part of that course, he’s screening Zootopia to teach hist students about implicit bias.

And on top of that, he’s put together a very thoroughly researched, though brief, analysis of how implicit bias is key in Zootopia, and how it presents a truly resonant and effective message. And he’s opened it up to the fandom to leave critiques! Either through ZNN comments, which he’s faithfully responded to, or via his email, which is attached to the paper.

The rabbit sergeant nodded in greeting as she walked into the office after being let in by a sheep she never bothered remembering the name of. “Good morning, ma’am,” she greeted back. Her stony disposition faltered as her lips twitched at the corners. She couldn’t help herself at least when it came to the ewe. The mayor had most definitely earned her respect from saving her job when she first joined the ZPD to ensuring her promotion and guiding Zootopia as she did.

“I won’t keep you long, Mayor,” she assured and brought a manilla envelope from under her arm. She hopped onto one of the chairs in front of the desk and set the envelope down on it before sliding it carefully over to the ewe. “The Chief needs you to look over these. He believes an upgrade on the tame collars is necessary. Not much of a modification, but he says a tracking device may be a good tool especially for the chompers with criminal history.”

   “ Hm, okay, lets take a look at this then, ” The sheep brought the envelope over towards her, adjusting her glasses as she did so, opening up the envelope and examining its contents carefully.

   “ Well, these quite a few changes… But good ideas I must admit, especially for the past criminals, ” She hummed, examining the pages curiously and very much agreeing with each new point. Higher shock values depending on the criminal’s conviction? Trackers for them? A potential tracker for every predator in the city? She deeply agreed with this.

It would show all mammals everywhere, both predator and prey that if they do crime they’ll do time and there was no escaping it. That was exactly what she said when questioned by the ewe before her. Perhaps just not as long winded as what she had thought in her mind.

“My personal opinion and my professional opinion are the same ma’am. I believe it’s a nice upgrade. We wouldn’t expend officers we may need for other cases to track down wanted chompers if we could just track them through technology. As for those who aren’t yet criminals, chompers are statistically proven to be more likely to pursue a life of crime. We’ll have a head start on them.”

Normally Jack wasn’t the one to be snarky but something about being handcuffed and basically kidnapped by your boss puts even the shyest of hare’s in a bad mood “W-Well frankly most people are asked polite to go somewhere. N-Not handcuffed and dragged out like a common felon!” He says with a nervous but angry look on his face as he shakes his handcuffed paws for dramatic effect before plopping down into his seat with a nervous huff “S-So Boss w-why is it so important you drag me out here? C-Can’t what ever you’re planning be done at the s-station or at least somewhere that isn’t on a cliffside?”

Judy glanced over at him again knowing that he was right to be nervous. It certainly looked bad for him to be being dragged off to Cliffside. But she couldn’t tell him the truth of things yet, all would be explained soon enough. Or could she? She saw a lot of potential in him and aside from nowhe had put a lot of faith in her from what she’d seen.

All things considered it probably was unnecessary to cuff him like that or at least keep him cuffed now. So she kept her eyes on the road but slipped the key to the paw cuffs from her pocket and slipped it into his paw before straightening up again.

“Don’t try getting away the doors are designed to stay locked. Even if you could get out I’d drive over the cliff face trying to save your ass from the drop. We’d both be dead.”

She frowned out at the road as she spoke and took another turn as the top of the abandoned asylum came into view over a few other cliff tops.

Her eyes narrowed again as her paws squeezed the steering wheel until she practically had a death grip on it and didn’t relax until a crackle came over the radio then a voice familiar to her spoke through the other side.

[Defender come in.]

She didn’t even glance at Jack as she took the receiver in her paw and clicked a button on the side.

“Coming in loud and clear.”

[Vehicle in sight. What is your position?]

“En route to base, approximately a mile out. ETA fifteen minutes.”
