medieval peasant: I see... so, it is the case that there are many paintings within this magical book? it is not so strange after all.
me, trying to show him tumblr to scare him: I was kind of hoping this would be a bit more confusing to you

SOOOOO funny when you’re having a strong emotion and your logical brain KNOWS you’re overreacting but you literally can’t do anything about it.
Emotional brain: fire and rage and biting and biting and biting
Logical brain: That was an innocent mistake, and not anyone’s fault.
Emotional brain: you’re right… fire and rage and biting biting biting for one thousand years tho

As its catchy name suggests, “Lingthusiasm” is a show powered by its hosts’ passion for words. Lauren Gawne and Gretchen McCulloch, both linguists, were running separate blogs when they met online in the mid-2010s, and decided to combine their expertise into a podcast. New episodes are released monthly and offer listeners a window into all kinds of linguistic subjects, like the technical side of phonetics and semiotics and the cultural variations in how language is taught in schools. The show is often as much about social habits as it is about language — one memorable episode had Gawne and McCulloch discuss “lopsided conversations,” those verbal interactions that can go off the rails if one person is either dominating or not contributing enough. It’s a fascinating listen that will change the way you see everyday communications.

Scott McCloud’s incomparable “Understanding Comics”.
I swear you can open this book to any page and it’s amazing.
(ps it’s actually a digital image of a printed copy of a drawing of a painting of a pipe)
Highly recommend scott mccloud’s “understanding comics” as an introduction to all forms of visual media, but especially educational work like scientific illustration because the man does have a handle on some of the funkier stuff that happens when a viewer tries to interpret an image.
Also reccomended: james gurney’s “light and color”. The man did Dinotopia he knows what the fuck he’s talking about.
People who give pets a bit of chocolate when they know it’s their pets last day are a bit of a funny concept. Imagine being old and friends with an alien who will live ten times your lifespan and they’re like “ah shit he’s dying, well since you’re dying anyway haven’t you always wanted to know what uranium tastes like?”
In this scenario have you been asking to share the alien's uranium desserts for your entire friendship?
Well to be fair if I was friends with a heavy metal-eating alien and he LOVED uranium and loved to put it in various forms in his alien desserts or ate it on its own sometimes and his species had a guy who made intrictate edible uranium scuptures that everyone on Krunglr (Saturnian tumblr) lost their shit over then yeah I'd be quite curious too
wait do people read first person stories and think they're the ones in the story???
Saw people talking about not liking first person, which is fair, but their reasoning was like "I would not do that" and I don't understand that mindset.
First person stories are still about a character. A character making their own decisions. First person isn't about you???? At least I thought it wasn't. What am I missing? I've always seen first person as just a more in-depth look into a character's mind and stricter POV. Not as a reader stand-in.
I see first person stories like I'm sitting down across from the narrator getting the wildest tea imaginable
Most accurate way to read a first person story
just looked over to find my cat had somehow crawled into the sleeve of my jacket ???? fucking wheezing. the baleful worm

literally they just used an interpolator technology to make the the lines follow the curve of the face regardless of the camera angle. Thats a shader. That is literally just a fancy shader. Claiming any procedural technology is the same as midjourney is INCREDIBLY fucking disingenuous. Goddamnit
This is what I mean by "At some level of micro managing an AI it becomes a tool again, like a rendering program or a photo shop brush" Artificial intelligence or complex generative algorithms aren't inherently bad
