I maintain that the best summation of my feminist beliefs are that men and women are not fundamentally different. There are a few quantifiable differences if you average out every woman and every man, but they are not qualitative. And most of them are socially constructed, and would be fixed if we started treating men and women the same. Neither is inherently smarter, neither is inherently kinder, neither is inherently more stoic or stronger or angrier or softer. the thing about discomfort is that it's an extremely nebulous category that can be triggered by virtually anything and that's far too broad a category to have any inherent moral quality to it. like. my mom was mad uncomfortable when I stopped shaving. that didn't mean I was doing violence against my mom it just meant she needed to get over herself. many such cases it must be said.

If there's sexual abuse subtext no there isn't, if there's allusion to sexual abuse you're ruining it for everyone else by talking about it, if there's a metaphor for sexual abuse you're reading too far into it and it's actually a metaphor for anything more palatable, and if there's on-screen sexual abuse? Well that's exploitative torture porn, of course.
