It was really fun thinking about the expressions everyone would have, and when it was Al's turn I laughed a little. Just as I was about to write, I remembered that he is an old-fashioned man and what I had written was very modern

So it was between Louisiana French (French dialect) and Louisiana Creole (Kouri-Vini). And here I got perhaps a little obsessive, wondering which one he was talking about regularly. Maybe both, maybe neither, who knows. I also wanted to try the popular headcanon, but again I forgot that I was using modern words instead of the ones someone would use in the 1930s

Words like "kèl" or "genyen" were standardized relatively recently. So I opted for something more standard and "elegant" to avoid worrying about which words existed back then

Whatever the case may be, I appreciate everyone who took the trouble to translate these scribbles. I thought you'd only look at the spanish texts, but I was wrong and it makes me happy :')

Slight tangent one of my favorite things is when I'm reading an alastor fanfic and I have to stop and look something up because I start going "whats this?" Like im jack skellington.

Its been my experience on Tumblr at least that people love translating things. Especially the Egyptologists. Its delightful.

Head canon that Alastor has trouble writing. He can read well and can certainly write well enough to read his own writing, but other people have trouble. He has messy writing and bad spelling, because of the schooling that was available to him being very subpar. He also couldn't really afford himself time to write and do academics when he was younger because he has to work to help support his mother.

I try not to fall into the "I never liked their work anyway" ditch when an artist/creator reveals themself to be a terrible person

BUT

a feeling I do have and will stand by is "While I enjoyed their work overall I did have some gripes that I overlooked out of affection and whimsy, but now that my loyalty is gone and my affection tainted there is nothing holding me back from enumerating my many grievances, to which the revelations of the creator's shittiness may or may not provide a new and infuriating context."
