WOW I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS IS MY FAVORITE TELEVISION SERIES OF ALL TIME (it's not out yet)
i hate it when people ask me to "explain my thought process" like hell if i know
"what's going on in that head of yours?" nothing i want to be a part of
if you dont decouple your drive to create from your desire for attention you will go insane. simple as. you will never feel satisfied b/c you will always want more and you will feel perpetually bitter that you did not get what you are “owed”
It’s an unpopular opinion but it is absolutely and completely true. I’ve never seen someone who creates for engagement happy with the engagement they get. I posit they can’t ever be happy that way because it will NEVER be enough
I agree with OP and Manka so very much.
You have to rest in your own desire to create.
But, because I see statements like this turn into a sort of general notion of “it’s bad to want validation or attention or engagement”, and to me, that’s not what this means.
It’s perfectly valid to want people to like and engage with what you create. In a general sense, when you create anything, you do it to share with other human beings. Art, craft, food, anything you create is a way to connect with others through our shared humanity.
And wanting someone to like you fanart or read your fanfic is part of that.
the words used by OP is decouple, and this is important. Nothing wrong wanting engagement. But it cannot be tightly coupled with the drive to create.

I thought we'd never see the day 🥲
GOOD LUCK AND I MEAN IT
I've been in a bit of an art funk lately, so I decided to do a little redraw of this piece from 2021.
not doomed by the narrative but saved by the narrative. yeah i know you'd rather die than keep suffering but the story doesn't actually care what you want. you have to keep going, even when it hurts. even being erased from existence won't stop you from being salvaged from the wreckage of un-being. get up. keep pushing. keep bleeding. keep living.

I haven't seen or read project hail mary but for a while now my dash has been flooded with people talking about how aroace coded the protagonist is, basically everyone seeing him as such, and from what I've heard he is ACTUALLY aroace coded beyond just not having a love interest, and now somehow overnight people started shipping him with the guy from the markiplier movie
This is an interesting case and I think it illustrates my exact issue with the shipping aro/ace characters debate. He's not canonically aroace as far as I know, and as I have said a million times before, it's not a real person having their boundaries violated by being forced into a relationship, it's a fictional character. And why should it bother me? I haven't read the book, I haven't seen the movie, I am not in this fandom. However, it is extremely, EXTREMELY telling how everyone collectively agreed that he is definetly aroace based on the text and it's pretty much the most logical interpretation, and it means so much to aro/ace viewers, then suddenly people decide that it's simply more fun to ship him with a guy who isn't even from the same story.
This is what I mean when I say most people don't want to engage with aro/ace characters.
Write whatever you want. Write that incredibly niche thing that only two other people on earth will get. Write the super indulgent cliche thing that makes you kick your feet giddily. Write the angry rage story that whumps them all and makes people cry.
Whatever it is that YOU want to write. Write it. Because only YOU can.

for the good of all mankind
there's a thin overlap between despair and hope. a knife's edge. it's a kind of steel that forms in your bones; it weighs you down but keeps you steady.
you keep going because there's no other option right now. you keep going because you have to. you keep going and that in itself is a kind of despair; acceptance of your fate. and yet. you haven't given up. you don't know what your future looks like, can't even remember what it's like to imagine one, but you haven't thrown it away.
you trudge on, blind and deaf and only aware that you are walking. but still you walk.
