St Louis Police Faked Suicide Of a Black Man. He Survived And Told Everything
St. Lois police claimed that Bernard Scott, 44 committed suicide in the jail where he was taken on a minor traffic violation. Actually after detention Scott had abdominal pain and bleeding but police blocked paramedics who were going to take him to the hospital. After Scott lost conciseness with a stiff muscles, cops called another ambulance and told the doctors that Bernard Scott hanged himself. Probably police could get away with it, but Scott survived and recalled everything: âWhy would I hang myself? I was in on traffic tickets⌠the first ambulance driver wanted to take me with him, but the guy wouldn't let me leave.â
Itâs hard to say why cops did this cruel and absolutely mad shit. Anyway they should be sentenced for murder attempt!

Once slavery was abolished in 1865, manufacturers scrambled to find other sources of cheap laborâand because the 13th amendment banned slavery (except as punishment for crimes), they didnât have to look too far. Prisons and big businesses have now been exploiting this loophole in the 13th amendment for over a century.
âInsourcing,â as prison labor is often called, is an even cheaper alternative to outsourcing. Instead of sending labor over to China or Bangladesh, manufacturers have chosen to forcibly employ the 2.4 million incarcerated people in the United States. Chances are high that if a product youâre holding says it is âAmerican Made,â it was made in an American prison.
On average, prisoners work 8 hours a day, but they have no union representation and make between .23 and $1.15 per hour, over 6 times less than federal minimum wage. These low wages combined with increasing communication and commissary costs mean that inmates are often released from correctional facilities with more debt than they had on their arrival. Meanwhile, big businesses receive tax credits for employing these inmates in excess of millions of dollars a year.
While almost every business in America uses some form of prison labor to produce their goods, here are just a few of the companies who are helping prisoners pay off their debt to society, so to speak.
Whole Foods. The costly organic supermarket often nicknamed âWhole Paycheckâ purchases artisan cheese and fish prepared by inmates who work for private companies. The inmates are paid .74 cents a day to raise tilapia that is subsequently sold for $11.99 a pound at the fashionable grocery store.
McDonaldâs. The worldâs most successful fast food franchise purchases a plethora of goods manufactured in prisons, including plastic cutlery, containers, and uniforms. The inmates who sew McDonaldâs uniforms make even less money by the hour than the people who wear them.
Wal-Mart. Although their company policy clearly states that âforced or prison labor will not be tolerated by Wal-Martâ, basically every item in their store has been supplied by third-party prison labor factories. Wal-Mart purchases its produce from prison farms where laborers are often subjected to long, arduous hours in the blazing heat without adequate sunscreen, water, or food.
Victoriaâs Secret. Female inmates in South Carolina sew undergarments and casual-wear for the pricey lingerie company. In the late 1990âs, 2 prisoners were placed in solitary confinement for telling journalists that they were hired to replace âMade in Hondurasâ garment tags with âMade in U.S.A.â tags. Victoriaâs Secret has declined to comment.
Aramark. This company, which also provides food to colleges, public schools and hospitals, has a monopoly on foodservice in about 600 prisons in the U.S. Despite this, Aramark has a history of poor foodservice, including a massive food shortage thatcaused a prison riot in Kentucky in 2009.
AT&T. In 1993, the massive phone company laid off thousands of telephone operatorsâall union membersâin order to increase their profits. Even though AT&Tâs company policy regarding prison labor reads eerily like Wal-Martâs, they have consistently used inmates to work in their call centers since â93, barely paying them $2 a day.
BP. When BP spilled 4.2 million barrels of oil into the Gulf coast, the company sent a workforce of almost exclusively African-American inmates to clean up the toxic spill while community members, many of whom were out-of-work fisherman, struggled to make ends meet. BPâs decision to use prisoners instead of hiring displaced workers outraged the Gulf community, but the oil company did nothing to reconcile the situation.
From dentures to shower curtains to pill bottles, almost everything you can imagine is being made in American prisons. Also implicit in the past and present use of prison labor are Microsoft, Nike, Nintendo, Honda, Pfizer, Saks Fifth Avenue, JCPenney, Macyâs, Starbucks, and more. UNICOR, the corporation created and owned by the federal government to oversee penal labor, sets the condition and wage standards for working inmates.

A post for men about creepy men
I wrote a post a while back about how some people are very good at getting away with doing intentionally creepy things by passing themselves off as just ~awkward~.
Recently, I noticed a particular pattern that plays out. While creeps can be any gender, thereâs a gendered pattern by which creepy men get other men to help them be creepy:
A guy runs over the boundaries of women constantly
He makes them very uncomfortable and creeped out
But he doesnât do that to guys, and
He doesnât talk to guys about it in an unambiguous way, and
When he does it in front of guys, he finds a way to make it look deniable
And then some women complain to a man, maybe even a man in charge who is supposed to be responsible for preventing abuse in a space
and he has no idea what they are talking about, since heâs never the target or witness
And heâs had a lot of pleasant interactions with that guy
So he sympathizes with him, and thinks he must mean well but be have trouble with social skills
And then takes no action to get him to stop or to protect women
And so the group stays a place that is safe for predatory men, but not for the women they target
For example:
Mary, Jill, and Susan: Bill, Bobâs been making all of us really uncomfortable. Heâs been sitting way too close, making innuendo after everything we say, and making excuses to touch us.
Bill: Wow, Iâm surprised to hear that. Bobâs a nice guy, but heâs a little awkward. Iâm sure he doesnât mean anything by it. Iâm not comfortable accusing him of something so serious from my position of authority.
What went wrong here?
Bill assumed that, if Bob was actually doing something wrong, he would have noticed.
Bill didnât think he needed to listen to the women who were telling him about Bobâs creepy actions. He didnât take seriously the possibility that they were right.Â
Bill assumed that women who were uncomfortable with Bob must be at fault; that they must be judging him too harshly or not understanding his awkwardness
Bill told women that he didnât think that several women complaining about a guy was sufficient reason to think something was wrong
Bill assumed that innocently awkward men should not be confronted about inadvertantly creepy things they do, but rather women should shut up and let them be creepy
A rule of thumb for men:
If several women come to you saying that a man is being creepy towards them, assume that they are seeing something you arenât
Listen to them about what they tell you
If you like the guy and have no idea what theyâre talking about, that means that what he is doing is *not* innocent awkwardness.
If it was innocent awkwardness, he wouldnât know how to hide it from other men
Men who are actually just awkward and bad at understanding boundaries also make *other men* uncomfortable
If a man is only making women uncomfortable but not men, that probably means heâs doing it on purpose
Take that possibility seriously, and listen to what women tell you about men
tl;dr If you are a man, other men in your circle who are nice to you are creepy towards women. Donât assume that if something was wrong that you would have noticed; creepy men are good at finding the lines of what other men will tolerate. Listen to women. They know better than you do whether a man is being creepy and threatening towards women; if they think something is wrong, listen and find out why. Donât tolerate give predatory dudes who are nice to you cover to keep hurting women.

Iâve been forced to explain homosexuality to my kids (aged 3 and 4) because their uncle is gay. You know whatâs a major pet peeve for me when it comes to arguments against raising the minimum wage? All the references to food service workers as âburger flippersâ. Burger flippers are not a thing. Youâre never going to see a restaurant post a sign that says âhelp wanted: hiring burger flippers.â âBurger flipperâ is a term used pretty much exclusively to condescend to food service workers and downplay the real work and stress that goes into food service. It makes out like minimum wage workers are lazy people who are literally just standing at a grill, occasionally moving a spatula, all day, mindlessly, and that is their one and only responsibility, which anyone who has ever worked in food service can tell you is not what that job entails. Itâs rhetoric used solely to designate them inferior. It doesnât reflect the reality of minimum wage food service work. Itâs annoying.
to put this in perspective, my job consists of:
prepping hundreds of pounds of vegetables alone per week, using knives, a heavy-duty meat slicer, and a vegetable chopper, any of which could easily take off a finger from a careless move
constantly refilling vegetables, cheeses, sauces, and non-perishables (cups, salad bowls, ecc)
cooking on a 200°-400° F grill for anywhere from 2-6 hours per day, often intentionally putting hot oil on it upon customer request
ensuring meat is not over or undercooked as to prevent food poisoning
quality control of every single topping on the line (freshness, consistency, overall taste and appearance), as well as making sure to regularly change gloves
being conscious and accommodating of any allergies or dietary restrictions
talking to a wide variety of customers each day, with a mandated Cheerful Smile, regardless of any events in my personal life or how they treat me
having to explain prices and menu options as well as toe the company line by upselling certain deals to every single person
and above all making sure all dishes and the entire rest of the store is clean and sanitary, as well as making it neat and orderly for customers.
every one of my coworkers does all of this every single day. every day my coworkers and i plunge our hands into scalding water to ensure dishes are properly sanitized, every day we take blades within an inch of our hands so that people have an enjoyable variety of food to eat. it is not uncommon to leave a shift at work with a second-degree burn at the very least.
what do i personally earn for this? $7.50 an hour, and that was after a 25 cent raise. this is an emotionally and physically taxing job. this job is non-stop customer service with concern for public health hanging over every move i make. what about this sounds easy? what about this sounds desirable for such a pittance? if i cared a little less about my job, hundreds of people could get sick in a single day if i served onions i dropped on the floor, or meat i undercooked, or if i sneezed and didnt take the time to wash my hands and change my gloves.
but sure. i guess i just flip burgers.

My whole family owns/operates/works in Chinese restaurants so lemme tell you: -We chop all our vegetables FRESH -We butcher our own chicken from whole chickens (we strip the breasts/tenders from the torso; we debone the thigh meat) -We use the bones to make chicken stock for our soups -We roast our own pork/ribs in an in-house smoker -We peel and devein all of our shrimp BY HAND (this is what i did as a kid) -We make our own dumplings/wontons/egg roll/spring rolls/breaded shrimp BY HAND (none of these are frozen) -We used to make our own dumpling dough from scratch, but it was a lot of work and we switched to premade but many other places still do this -All sauces and marinates are made by hand (no premade/store bought) -All gravy is made by hand from scratch -All soups are made from scratch -Egg Foo Young takes FOREVER TO MAKE (there are like 7 different steps and you can only make one order at a time) -An average take out restaurant has 3-6 employees (oftentimes family) -Most employees work 6 days a week/60-70 hours a week -Many employees live with their employers, sometimes very far away from their families (ie a father sending money back to his wife and kids in China) -Owners (such as my parents) usually work 7 days a week, 364 days a year (we close on thanksgiving) -Oftentimes kids will be helping out/hanging around bc they canât afford childcare (Iâve been cashiering since i was 10) SO WITH ALL THIS IN MIND, itâs really hurtful when someone complains about our prices. Averaging $5-$10/person (which is FAST FOOD LEVEL PRICES), the food you get has fresh vegetables, fresh meat, no weird preservativesâall cooked to order. âHOW MUCH did you say this cost??? WHEEEEW!â âYouâre taking all my money!â â(Asks for extra thing) Why does that cost extra?â âSo what do i get for free for spending $20?â âHowâs your pork made? It ainât dog meat, is it?â âall hurtful things Iâve personally heard and had to grin and bear For some reason, it seems people donât respect Chinese restaurants. You would never treat a Western-owned restaurant like this. Even places like PF Chang and Panda Express (who DO NOT use fresh ingredients) can overcharge out the wazoo but no one complains because theyâre oftentimes being served by Western faces. It really hurts for people to act like my familyâs hard work isnât worth anything to them. Treat your locally owned business with respect. Treat your Chinese restaurants with respect. Really think about the food youâre getting and all the work that goes into it. Think of all the hard working people behind bringing you this meal youâre about to enjoy, a meal you didnât have to prepare (this goes for fast food too). Above all else, TREAT OTHER HUMAN BEINGS WITH BASIC DIGNITY.

Mocking a trans womanâs appearance because sheâs trans is an act of transphobia. Mocking a trans womanâs appearance for whatever other reason is not.
It absolutely is always transmisogyny; trans womenâs appearances are violently policed in every way all day every day, and any attempt to mock a trans womanâs appearance is an attack on her courageous efforts to overcome that violence, she is daring to visibly exist in a world that wants her to not exist and you are mocking her because you donât like how that looks?
It doesnât matter why youâre doing it or what your intent is. A trans womanâs appearance is always related to her experience of being trans and a woman, and mocking her appearance always connects to cissexist and heterosexist ideals of female acceptability.
Stop trying to tell trans women what is and what is not a transmisogyny and please start listening instead.
