Taylor Swift + writing dialogue ~from the boy’s perspective~ as a narrative device to explicitly sing about loving girls (and later about loving one specific girl who was publicly very well known to be her best best friend) in a safe way that could still ostensibly fit into the rigid heterosexual framework that has always been expected of her

For years I asked, pleaded for a chance to own my work. Instead I was given an opportunity to sign back up to Big Machine Records and ‘earn’ one album back at a time, one for every new one I turned in. I walked away because I knew once I signed that contract, Scott Borchetta would sell the label, thereby selling me and my future. I had to make the excruciating choice to leave behind my past. Music I wrote on my bedroom floor and videos I dreamed up and paid for from the money I earned playing in bars, then clubs, then arenas, then stadiums. 

Some fun facts about today’s news: I learned about Scooter Braun’s purchase of my masters as it was announced to the world. All I could think about was the incessant, manipulative bullying I’ve received at his hands for years. 

Like when Kim Kardashian orchestrated an illegally recorded snippet of a phone call to be leaked and then Scooter got his two clients together to bully me online about it. (See photo) Or when his client, Kanye West, organized a revenge porn music video which strips my body naked. Now Scooter has stripped me of my life’s work, that I wasn’t given an opportunity to buy. Essentially, my musical legacy is about to lie in the hands of someone who tried to dismantle it.

This is my worst case scenario. This is what happens when you sign a deal at fifteen to someone for whom the term ‘loyalty’ is clearly just a contractual concept. And when that man says ‘Music has value’, he means its value is beholden to men who had no part in creating it. 

When I left my masters in Scott’s hands, I made peace with the fact that eventually he would sell them. Never in my worst nightmares did I imagine the buyer would be Scooter. Any time Scott Borchetta has heard the words ‘Scooter Braun’ escape my lips, it was when I was either crying or trying not to. He knew what he was doing; they both did. Controlling a woman who didn’t want to be associated with them. In perpetuity. That means forever. 

Thankfully, I am now signed to a label that believes I should own anything I create. Thankfully, I left my past in Scott’s hands and not my future. And hopefully, young artists or kids with musical dreams will read this and learn about how to better protect themselves in a negotiation. You deserve to own the art you make.

I will always be proud of my past work. But for a healthier option, Lover will be out August 23.

In excellent recent news, the House has passed the Equality Act, which would protect LGBTQ people from discrimination in their places of work, homes, schools, and other public accommodations. The next step is that the bill will go before the Senate. I’ve decided to kick off Pride Month by writing a letter to one of my senators to explain how strongly I feel that the Equality Act should be passed. I urge you to write to your senators too. I’ll be looking for your letters by searching the hashtag #lettertomysenator.

While there’s no information yet as to when the Equality Act will go before the Senate for a vote, we do know this: Politicians need votes to stay in office. Votes come from the people. Pressure from massive amounts of people is a major way to push politicians towards positive change. That’s why I’ve created a petition at change.org to urge the Senate to support the Equality Act.

Our country’s lack of protection for its own citizens ensures that LGBTQ people must live in fear that their lives could be turned upside down by an employer or landlord who is homophobic or transphobic. The fact that, legally, some people are completely at the mercy of the hatred and bigotry of others is disgusting and unacceptable.

Let’s show our pride by demanding that, on a national level, our laws truly treat all of our citizens equally. 🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈

Taylor’s video for Emily: (X)

The video features the song ‘Stolen’ by Dashboard Confessional 

The song repeats the lyrics, “You have stolen my heart” multiple times. 

The video also includes Taylor, among many others, holding a sign that reads, “I love you, Emily. [hand drawn heart]” 

The video also includes a hand written not from Taylor to Emily. It reads:

“Emily– I feel as if our relationship has been taken to the next level over the past few months and with much contemplation I decided I would bestow upon you one of my most prized possession: my flamingo bandana. This is a 3rd generation family heirloom and i suggest you frame it. I think it will look perfect in your apartment with the cat pillows. Enjoy”

This is an ideal place to leave the (alleged) reason why Emily was fired:

Holy Ground

The lyrics, “I left a note on the door with a joke we’d made” point to Dianna as there is a photo of Dianna’s bathroom door that Taylor wrote on. 

“I’m a little [kitten] and I need to nurse because I’m a runt and I’m likely to fall victim to predators.”

It is also noteworthy that Taylor dressed up as a cat on leash for a party she and Dianna attended.

I Know Places 

Taylor on the meaning behind the song: 

“I had this idea of like, you know, when you’re in love – along the lines of ‘Out of the Woods’ – it’s very precious, it’s fragile. As soon as the world gets ahold of it, whether it’s your friends or people around town hear about it … it’s kind of like the first thing people want to do when they hear that people are in love is just kind of try to ruin it, if they’re not the greatest human beings.”

Taylor goes on to say, “What would I say if I met someone really awesome and they were like, hey, I’m worried about all this attention you get?’ So I wrote this song called ‘I Know Places’ about, like, ‘Hey, I know places we can hide. We could outrun them.”

Many fans have speculated that this song is more about hiding a gay relationship. 

Many believe this to be true, not only because of the lyrics, but because of the performance that went along with the song on the 1989 Tour. 

In the performances she is shown coming in and out of doors, possibly symbolizing coming out of the closet.

Vogue Photoshoot 

It is commonly known that Taylor and Karlie did a photoshoot together for Vogue. 

The photos were taken in November of 2014 before kissgate. They were published in the February 2015 Vogue issue. It is speculated that before kissgate happened, these photos were going to be apart of their coming out.

Big Sur 

Taylor and Karlie road tripped to Big Sur, sometime between the end of February 2014 and the beginning of March 2014.

This is the Creek Cabin which, according to the Deetjen’s Big Sur Inn website includes a queen bed, a separate single bed, and a private bathroom. This is assuming they stayed in the Upper Creek (upper level).

High School Rumors

Glaad Awards 

Taylor presented an award to Ruby Rose at the 2016 Glaad Awards.

In her speech Taylor clearly includes herself in the LGBTQ+ Community 

“She tells the world that no one can judge us and no one can stop us.”

Pronouns

Taylor has multiple songs where she doesn’t use gender specific pronouns, which for most artists is a clear indicator that they are avoiding said pronouns. 

In I Knew You Were Trouble, Taylor does use he/him pronouns, but in her performance at the Heart Radio Music Awards she clearly says “and the saddest fear comes creeping in that she never loved me” (X)

Riptide 

Taylor’s Riptide cover falls under the pronoun category simply because she didn’t change the pronouns in the cover. 

Many fans have noticed how happy she looks while singing this, specifically when she sings, “closest thing to Michelle Pfieffer that you’ve ever seen” (X)

Jack Antonoff’s Interview 

In my opinion, this is the biggest piece of evidence as Jack basically outs Taylor by accident. 

Interviewer: You’re not going to have that conversation with Taylor Swift?                                                                                                   Jack: No. I like women, in particularly gay women                          Interviewer: Is she gay?

…Ready for it? 

“Younger than my exes, but he act like such a man, so”

Predominantly, Taylor’s boyfriends have been older than her with the exception of a few such as Harry Styles, who many think this song is about. 

This is obviously not the case for multiple reasons. The lyric suggests that this person is younger than any partner she has. Harry is not the only boyfriend she has had who was younger. 

Haylor also took place FIVE years ago and was less than a month long. It would be a reach to say that she ever wrote about that relationship, let alone is STILL writing about it. 

If we look at the ages of Taylor’s ex girlfriends we see that they have all been older than Taylor with the exception of Karlie Kloss. 

The lyric, “Island breeze and the lights down low, no one has to know” also points towards Karlie. 

“No one has to know” being a nod to a hidden relationship.

The mention of ‘island breeze’ is reminiscent of the time Taylor went to the Bahamas with Karlie. 

Calvin and Taylor also took a vacation together, very publicly however, so the lyric “no one has to know” proves that the song clearly isn’t about him. 

More proof that the song isn’t about Calvin is his age. He is 33. Definitely not younger than Taylor’s exes. 

Dianna Agron 

Clean Photo Imagery:

Just so happens that this photo looks a lot like this one:

It’s too alike to be pure coincidence, especially since Clean lyrics point heavily toward Dianna

“10 months sober I must admit just because you’re clean don’t mean you don’t miss it” 

The song was written 10 months after Dianna and Taylor’s last public interaction. 

Taylor’s deleted tweet always catches my eye: 

Obviously her ‘inside source’ was Dianna. The tweet was later deleted, probably after Taylor watched the episode and did not hear her song, but did see Dianna’s character Quinn have sex with Naya Rivera’s character Santana.
