We Survivors of Authoritarianism Have a Message America Needs to Hear: This is Exactly How it Happens, and Itâs Happening Here.
Smart followers, Iâm requesting your thoughts- Is  there a single instance of âburn it all downâ that has been successfully leveraged to build a better country? A lot of people seem to think that if things get bad enough, people here will reach a breaking point and that will somehow create a revolution that will usher in a utopia. Iâve been researching  for years and canât find a recent example. Am I missing something?
My family had to flee Iran during the Revolution. A lot of people wanted to oust the Shah and thought that they could build something better from the ground up once he was gone. Itâs been 40 years and the entire country is essentially being held hostage  because the authoritarian party they voted in removed all checks and  balances, laws, accountability, etc. My family and I have been seeing so many parallels since trump emerged in 2015, but no one is listening to us.
This is, in all sincerity, the most important article any American citizen could read.
This is not a âstop scrolling and reblogâ petty attention grab. I am begging you to go back and read this article, in itâs entirety, and push everyone you know to do the same.
This is putting into words what Iâve been kept up by every night but unable so express, this is exactly what Iâve been feeling when I see my motherâs stories of the Nicaraguan revolution playing out in the very city Iâm living in. This sounds dramatic, but it is not.
But the most important thing here, the most ominous factor, is that our borders are closed. My family and I have always kept the mindset of âif it gets bad enough, weâll flee.â Thatâs how my ancestors have survived. Thatâs how they taught me to survive. Thatâs no longer an option for any of us. We are living at the edge of a dictatorship, and that dictator has already eliminated our escape routes.
