Junghwan pushed open the cafรฉ door. He tugged his black face mask a little higher, feeling awkward as he realised he was all alone. He wasnโt used to doing coffee runsโusually one of the older members got stuck with that jobโbut today it had apparently been his turn.
He had collected the order of all nine of his members, none of them too complicated - but the task felt overwhelming without one of the older members whom he had grown so dependent on over the few months they had spent together.
The bell above the door chimed, and thatโs when he saw her. She was behind the counter, tying her brown apron with a little frown of concentration, and when she looked up, Junghwan swore the world tilted a little.
She looked up, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear as she greeted him with a smile. For a moment, Junghwan forgot what he was doing. He wasnโt Junghwan the idol, he wasnโt Junghwan the youngest member on errand dutyโhe was just a teenage boy who suddenly couldnโt breathe properly.
โHi! What can I get started for you?โ
Junghwan blinked. Oh, rightโthe list. He scrambled to pull it out, nearly dropping it in the process. His ears and cheeks flushed bright red as he read out each drink, trying not to trip over the words, and careful not to slip up and mention the names written messily beside each drink order.
She just nodded, tapping it all into the register with practiced ease.
When she handed him the receipt, their fingers brushed. Junghwan froze.
โYouโve got a lot of drinks,โ she said, smiling playfully. โBig study group?โ
He hesitated. He wasnโt supposed to say too much. โUhโฆ something like that.โ
Her smile lingered anyway, and he felt his heart trip over itself.
While he waited, he pretended to scroll on his phone, but his eyes kept drifting back to herโhow focused she looked steaming milk, how she laughed with her coworker. It was ridiculous, he thought. He was standing there, waiting for ten beverages, and the weight of the upcoming schedule was pulling at him, but all he could think about was how much he wanted to come back tomorrow.
When she finally slid the multiple cup holders across the counter, she added a small cup on the side.
โThis oneโs on the house,โ she said with a wink. โYou looked like you needed it.โ
Junghwan glanced down. A simple iced latte with a heart doodled on the lid.
His ears burned again. He mumbled a quick thank you, clutching the cup like it was something precious of extreme value and not just a cup of cold coffee.
As he stepped back out into the street, he realized he didnโt even like coffee. He had purposely ordered a hot chocolate, as the coffee the older members usually drank was too bitter for him.
Nonetheless, Junghwan made a promise to himself as he walked back towards the dance studio - tomorrow, when they had practice again, he would volunteer to go on the coffee run just to see the cute barista again. Maybe next time he could get her nameโฆ?

R&B music plays softly throughout your room, drowning out the thunderstorm set to pass over the city tonight. You're laying stomach down on your bed, scrolling through your phone when Wooyoung walks back into the room. A sly smile plays on his lips as he walks towards the bed, and he slowly climbs on top of you. You groan at the pressure of his body laying atop yours, but he can't help but laugh at your reaction.
โYou sure you don't need a manly man to keep you safe from the storm tonight?โ He asks, ignoring your complaints to get off of you.
โWhat manly man?โ You rebut, rolling your eyes. Wooyoung scoffs and sinks even more of his weight onto you. You whine out his name, struggling to get him off of you.
He reaches down to pinch your side, leaning in close to your ear. โCome on, you usually like this position,โ he whispers, his breath hot on your skin. It sends a shiver down your spine, but he continues. โEspecially tonight, when you couldn't stop screaming my name-โ
Ignoring the heat that rises to your cheeks, you use all your strength to push him off. He rolls onto his back next to you, chuckling. โStop laughing,โ you pout, turning your face away from him.
โHow can I when you look this cute?โ He asks, pinching your cheek and then leaving a quick kiss in the same spot.
Thunder crashes loudly outside, bringing his attention away from you for a moment. โYou sure you don't need me to stay tonight?โ He questions, eyes much softer as he turns back to you.
You finally meet his eyes, smiling sweetly back at him. โYou've never stayed the night before, and I don't think a little thunderstorm is going to change that,โ you tell him.
He sighs, but his smile remains, and he nods. โAlright, alright,โ he lets out, rolling off the bed and onto his feet. He leans over, patting your head gently. โI'm just a few doors down if you need me.โ
โI know, Wooyo,โ you reply, nodding back, almost leaning into the touch of his hand. โSleep tight, okay? And make sure to say hi to Yeosangie for me.โ
Wooyoung laughs again, โOf course.โ He leans down even more, leaving a kiss on your forehead. โSweet dreams, Y/Nie.โ He pulls back, waving teasingly before he goes to leave your room.
He walks through the quaint apartment you shared with Karina, decorated with lively colors and trinkets the two of you had collected over the years. The apartment was a perfect representation of your personalities, and even more so, your friendship. Bookshelves were lined with photos of the both of you, including one of Wooyoung's favorites: a photo of you and Karina when you moved in together just over a year ago. It was his favorite because he would go on to meet you that same exact day. He stares at the photo with soft eyes and a sweet smile, but doesn't stay much longer.
He walks through the front door, shutting it behind him. He stands there for a moment, smile falling as he lets out a sigh. After letting his thoughts settle, he finally turns to return to his apartment.
