fujitora, the man who blinded himself because he didn't want to see the filth that this world held, saying "i wish i hadn't blinded myself" holds so much weight. because he is not really regretting his decision, per se. if you gave him the choice, i think he'd choose being blind over having vision again. he is not the kind of man who regrets his decisions. he is not saying that because he suddenly wants to see the goodness of humanity or the beauty of a free dressrosa. no, he says that because he wants to see luffy.
"what do you look like? what is the colour of your hair, the shape of your eyes?"
a man who gave up on all the beauty this world contains wants to see again, because of luffy. he wants to see, because luffy's existence is so baffling and stupid and real. he's warm and real in this cruel world. he says he's going to be the king of the pirates but he has no taste for ruling anything or anyone. he says he wants to be king, but he gags at the face of power. he calls out his attacks, not because he thinks fujitora is weak or can't fend against himself, but because he likes fujitora and wants their fight to be equal in every sense of the word.
and fujitora laughs. how could he not?
monkey d luffy is strong. he is strong but he is not a hero. he is selfish but he is kind. he has the strength to control, but he has no interest in doing so. he likes people, even if they are his enemies, on a whim and his reasoning is absurd and stupid most of the time but he doesn't care. and for once, fujitora yearns to see what he can so clearly feel.
