The season is over but still some shifts are to be made to the final qualifying teams to the European Cup. the First Qualifying Round starts in three weeks and we have just seen two teams removed from competition. 

The first team is Feronikeli from Kosovo. Feronikeli are the current league champions of the recently accepted UEFA member and were under discussions to participate in this up-coming season’s Champions League. However, due to some licensing rights UEFA has decided that Kosovo must wait another year to take part in European Competitions. On a Side Note, FIFA has stated that both Kosovo and Gibraltar may take part in the Qualifiers for the World Cup and are set to Join Groups H and I of the European competition

The other big news is that Albania’s Skenderbeu have been banned from taking part of the European Cup for fixing matches. The team allege they did no such thing and are going to bring the claim to the Court for Arbitration of Sports. It’s more than likely that the Court will uphold UEFA’s decision. Nevertheless, they may still find a way back into the European Cup. Meanwhile, Partizani who so wildly fought for the spot are bound to take part of the second qualifying round.

After a long year and a very heated month we can finally know every single team that has a shot, even if it’s a little one, at the 2016-17 European Cup. Or do we?

First off, let’s talk about Sheriff Tiraspol. After they managed to catch Dacia Chisinau on points and had to play the final match of the league against them they only managed to draw. According to the rules of the Moldovan league a placement play off had to be undertaken to determine which team was going to represent Moldova in the European Cup. a goal in the 88th minute by Galesic assured Tiraspol the victory making them the second to last team to qualify for the European Cup. 

After the final intense matches of the Greek Playoffs, PAOK managed to clinch the spot after drawing 1 - 1 with Panathinaikos at home. It was a close race with AEK just 3 points away in the end. However, PAOK always had the upper hand managing to go undefeated in the playoffs. 

Lastly, UEFA recently announced that the winners of the Superleague of Kosovo may participate in the European Cup qualifiers starting this season if they meet certain licensing criteria. The final date for the assesment is May 31st 2016. By tomorrow an official statement should be enacted refering this issue. This will affect the Latvian champions Liepaja since they will be moved to the first qualifying round if Feronikeli (the champions of Kosovo) are allowed to compete. We’ll keep you updated. Meanwhile, if you’re a Feronikeli fan, cross your fingers.

First Off, AEK beat Panathanaikos and PAOK beat Panionios in the Greek play offs. This has effectively ended Panionios’ run. PAOK has the lead but they can still lose it today.

On Thursday, the final of the Campionato Sammarinese took place. The Group winners Tre Penne and La Fiorita battled it out but ultimately favorites Tre Penne won the league and assured their place in the European Cup

Lastly, this should not be news to anyone but Real Madrid achieved La Undécima at the expense of the Colchoneros’ hopes. This has settled the final seed for the 2016-17 Champions League

Today’s update will cover matchday 3 out of 6 of the Greek play offs. In the clash between Panionios and PAOK the away team ended up serving the hosts, 0-2 to be precise. Athanasiadis scored in the 27th minute. In the second half Panionios reacted but great defense by PAOK prevented a tie. A second goal was scored at 77. Near the end Ikonomou missed a penalty and ended up with a double booking. With 10 men Panionios were left with just one point in the table after two losses and a draw. This has left them almost of the race. They need to win all three upcoming games, rack up a good amount of goals to overcome the goal difference and PAOK, AEK and Panathinaikos must all win a game and lose game. If that happens Panionios will be level at 10 points with either PAOK or Panathinaikos and goal difference and head to head records will define if they can qualify. If they drop a single point they are out. The other scenario is that they all tie among them but they would still need to win the games they have left because of the goal difference. Oh boy!

In the other match up, Panathinaikos beat AEK solidly and surpassed AEK in points with seven. The upcoming match ups will probably leave a clear contender for that last spot because as of now the top three teams are only separated by 2 points

In the Belgian League Anderlecht pulled a solid win against Warengem and secured their spot in the third qualifying round leaving Gent out. It was going to be difficult for Gent anyway. Better luck next year.

In Luxembourg second-placed Fola managed an incredible 4-2 win against Differdange. It was all good for Fola as Dudelange were losing on a penalty against Wiltz. However, on the 73rd minute Dudelange’s Dikaba leveled the game and secured the title for him and his teammates. Dudelange are in the European Cup qualifiers. 

Lastly, in the Armenian League Alashkert secured the title in the end by winning their last game. Shirak made their best effort to keep up, but it was near to impossible. Alashkert are in.

CORRECITON: “According to section 10.5 of the Moldovan Football Championship Regulations, 2015-2016 Edition, an extra match will be played to determine the Moldovan champions” -source Wikipedia. The CHAMPIONS of the Moldovan League are not Dacia Chisinau. My Mistake! Sheriff Tiraspol still got a shot. 

First off, in Israel contenders Maccabi Tel Aviv and Beer Sheva played at the same time against Haifa and Sahknin respectively to determine who’d be in the European League next season. You have to wonder if the players of Tel Aviv knew hat was going on the other game. Why? Well, Beer Sheva started out losing to come back at 16 minutes and grab a lead at 40. Meanwhile Tel Aviv were winning on a single goal. If Beer Sheva tied Maccabi would have to go through on goal difference. So what did they do? they scored a shit ton of goals! during the second half Zehalvi completed a hat-trick and the team scored 5 goals within 18 minutes, 4 of them within 10, 3 of them within 6. But, it was not good enough. Beer Sheva scored another goal. Congratulations Beer Sheva for their first title in 40 years!

In Russia Rostov weren’t lucky enough and CSKA Moscow are taking the last slot in the Group Stages and the next to last seed! With a 0-1 over Kazan, Moscow ensured that Whatever Rostov did (they won) wouldn’t matter. Now, Congratulations!

In the Campionato Sammarinse La Fiorita beat Folgore 2-1 and ensured a Final between the tow Group winners. Tre Penne will be much rested and will have the upper hand on La Fiorita. We’ll wait and see. 

Tomorrow it’s all about Belgium and Luxembourg
