said it before & i’ll say it again i find it odd when the response to critique from romance fans is the suggestion that romance should be placed in its own special category of literature that exempts it from any rigorous critique as though that does not just perpetuate the (frequently misogynistic) stereotype that romance is a more frivolous/less respectable genre because 1) personally when i like something i usually hold it to higher standards & 2) the romance genre is not frivolous. on the contrary it is probably ontologically evil

imagine describing in words what it means to love and to lust. trying to accurately depict with only words all the complicated feelings involved with being tethered to another human because of these deep true feelings. romance novels are far from frivolous.
