my headcanon is that grindeldore faked the duel and that gellert surrendered and this is a hill im willing to die on
my favourite aberforth characterisation in fics is "he's not homophobic he's just a hater"
like he doesn't care if albus dates men in general he just hates him dating one specific man (gellert) with a burning passion
idk its just funny to me
v. badly done translation as gaeilge bc i need to practice lmao:
is é an léiriú caractair d'Aberforth is fearr liom i bhficsean leantóra ná "ní duine homofóbach é, níl ann ach fuathaitheoir"
like is cuma leis má atá albus ag dul amach le fir, ní fuath leis ach albus ag dul amach le fear amháin ar leith (gellert) le mothúcháin láidre
idk tá sé greannmhar i mo thuairim

I know I started this blog like less than a month ago (and I literally have three posts) but im already feeling mildly conflicted about keeping it up.
On one hand, I'm a tiny blog on Tumblr of all places, it's very unlikely that anything I say or don't say here will have any impact on something as large as the Harry Potter series. Grindeldore is also such as small part of the overall fandom, which makes this blog even less impactful imo.
On the other hand... it feels uncomfortable to be publicly posting about this series given JKR's actions. I say actions, not views, because while it would be one (horrible) thing for her to just be a transphobe in belief (which is still incredibly bad because she's one of the most famous, if not THE most famous author of recent times, so anything she says publicly is inherently going to be influential), but she actively uses her enormous wealth that she has accumulated from the Harry Potter series to not only fund anti-trans organisations but actively give money to anti-trans political campaigns in the UK to try and change laws.
It's not looking so good 😀
I firmly believe that there is nothing morally wrong with enjoying Harry Potter in private. No one is harmed by you reading a set of books that you already own. No one is harmed by you pirating films from over 10 years ago (or if you're like me a DVD box set). If you have friends IRL who enjoy HP, no one is harmed by you making fanart or fanfiction amongst yourselves, or otherwise engaging with it. Obviously if you know trans people and they feel uncomfortable with you enjoying or discussing HP because of JKR, then that's a different story, because they're entirely justified in that response, but that's an interpersonal thing and I feel like you need to talk that out and also make your own decisions regarding that (i.e. accept that you may have to decide if the people in your life matter more, and maybe think very hard on that decision).
I also think that attention is power. Controversy around something gets people talking about it as much as praise does, which usually leads to things being bought, which leads to money going towards the thing (in this case Harry Potter), which then puts that money straight into the pockets of the creator (which in this case is JKR... who is funding anti-trans campaigns. Lovely /s).
So while I'm enjoying HP and Grindeldore "quietly" I guess, the question is still whether or not that's enough? Or am I still contributing to the popularity of the series, and indirectly harming people in the process?
(Btw I don't have sources / evidence here because I'm planning to make a proper post with all of the shit she's done or said that I can find. Because receipts are important.)
OH YEAH and this is your official, unfriendly warning that if you actively contribute money to JKR and her works (buying new copies of the books, watching the films on streaming services, buy merch, planning on watching the show on HBO, etc) then you can get the fuck off my blog now <3
