we somehow found our love for the occult and decided we wanted to dive in head first, and then didn’t realize where to start

“is this a good one?” we say as we skim through the tiny metaphysical section at our local bookstore, and walk out with a mishmash of titles from various authors, all with conflicting opinions 

we jot down notes in old school notebooks because that leather grimoire we found online was too expensive

we ditched the books we read over and over again and turned to the internet, hungry for hidden knowledge

we all stumbled upon spellsofmagic.com and tried to do the unthinkable before realizing that it wasn’t working and got discouraged

we realized that *gasp* you can write your own spells, but how? 

we spent hours compiling correspondences for every herb and spice in our kitchen pantry, and dug through boxes to find our old crystal or seashell collection from when we were kids thinking “i could probably use these for… something”

we spent too much money on candles and incense before realizing we could get them cheaper online

we practiced drawing sigils and symbols to make them perfect before crumpling up the paper and starting all over

we learned to go outside and look at the moon to see what phase it was in and how we could possibly use that to our advantage 

“what cardinal direction was for fire again? south?” we went back to the drawing board, digging through our notes to find the section in which we wrote down the information before giving up and doing a quick google search instead

we set up wiccan altars because we didn’t know that there was anything else out there at first

we learned about intent, and made sure that we were careful to stir our tea or coffee in one direction or the other to set the mood for the day

we would squint at bottles of body wash in the shower to find the ingredients and quickly figure out how to use them for magick: “jasmine and lavender? i think that’s good for peace or something”

we say little incantations when we cook dinner, or pour food for our pets - “bunny, you are happy and healthy. enjoy!”

Cycles of the Moon

Waxing Moon 🌕: Spells to grow or create. Example: Enpllyment spells, Love spells, spells that create new opportunities, etc.

Waning Moon 🌕: Spells to release, bind, or dissapate. Examples: Breaking old or bad habits, letting go of emotional trauma, binding people so they do not do a harmful action against you, etc.

Full Moon 🌕: This is the most powerful time to do spells for growth or creation. In my experience, the full moon’s energy is powerful enough to do the spell, generally at midnight, for about 3 days.

New Moon 🌑: The new moon is the most powerful time to do spells for realeasing, binding, and dissapating. In my experience, the new moon’s energy is powerful enough to perform these spells for about 3 days. These you will definitely want to do as close to midnight as possible.

These are generally the phases of the moon that I use to perform my spells. Doing it this way keeps things nice and simple, but still just as powerful.

Pro Tip: Some spells work better if you complete them over time. I frequently break my spells up into a couple days, week, or even over the span of a whole month. While doing it this way does require patience, it’s worth it! My most successful spells have been accomplished using this method!

Sunday: Sun; Fortune, hope, and money

Monday: Moon; Merchandise, dreams, and theft

Tuesday: Mars; Matrimony, war, enemies, and prison

Wednesday: Mercury; Debt, fear, and loss

Seasons

Spring🌷: Spring is likened to a newborn. Everything is in its Growth. This season is marked by Imbolc and Ostara, the strengthening of the God as he grows, and the recovery of the Goddess from her giving birth. During this time, growth and cleansing spells are most powerful.

Summer🌻: Love, sex, fertility, and reproduction. Summer is marked by Beltane and Litha (Midsummer Solstice), and is a powerful time to perform spells for fertility, relationships, love, and abundance.

Autumn🍂: The Harvest Season, season of change- Autumn is that time we approach every year where we are reminded that the old die so the new can be born. We harvest for the winter, to prepare for the time when nothing grows. Marked most notably by Mabon and Samhain, Autumn is an excellent season to do spells for divination, to honour the dead, and for a fruitful harvest. Use the Autumn months to prepare for the winters of your life.

Winter❄️: Death and rebirth, as this is the time of Yule. Spells for new beginnings are especially powerful during the Winter season. After the Winter Solstice, the first full moon is especially powerful, making it an excellent moon to set your intentions and goals for the year.

It’s more often then not worth it to be patient and perform a spell over a period of time, as I mentioned before. Season long spells, while they must be broad, may be a powerful way to enhance your magick and your life.
