Whumpee never wants to be weak again, so they push themself further and further on the training grounds. Seeking out opponents with a reputation for going all out, then for going too far. Goading their sparring partners into attacking them for real. Secretly conjuring up magical constructs who won't hesitate to draw live steel. Training until their callouses tear open, until their muscles scream, until they throw up (and wipe their mouth and get back to it), until they pass out in the dust.

And it doesn't work. They flinch at the sound of a sword unsheathing. They get sloppy and irrational. They get weak.

CW: Restraints, muzzled, collared

Whumper keeps Whumpee in an excessive amount of restraints (can’t move an inch for chains, collared, muzzled) to ensure that they won’t break out - even if Whumpee is completely cooperative

Whumpee who does fight back, who bites, claws, scratches, does everything they can to cause as much damage to Whumper as possible

Whumper who “has to” keep Whumpee constantly sedated

Whumpee is a danger to themself, intentionally or not, so Whumper has to protect them before they fatally injure themselves

Nonhuman Whumpee is percieved as dangerous and muzzled/shock collared before they can plead their case, if they even can

Stranger Caretaker arriving to rescue Whumpee after defeating Whumper but hesitating when they realise who or what Whumpee is

Whumpee is a living weapon or villain and everyone is scared of them - except Caretaker’s child

His hand on the nape of Whumpee's neck tightened not enough to hurt, but enough to command absolute attention. He leaned down, his face inches from Whumpee's, his eyes boring into theirs with a terrifying intensity.

Dissociation

like most of the Whump I see has whumpees who remember everything clearly and are always crying and shi.

but what abt whumpees who dissociate heavily? Whenever they were tortured or whatever they mentally checked out of the situation, their mind somewhere far away from the pain.

and this carries over to when they’ve been rescued. Say Caretaker accidentally triggers them and instead of crying their eyes glaze over, mind already somewhere far away where they can’t be hurt

The actual dissociating

That weird floaty feeling, watching everything in third person, not feeling pain, not thinking their body is their own, total numbness

Also the secondary stuff like memory issues, constant confusion, "negative hallucinations" like where the brain kinda just blanks out something thats supposed to be there like maybe a certain person

conditioned whumpee inflicting their own punishments, believing theyre crucial to keeping themselves in line and that whumper was right in doing so. maybe not trusting themselves to do the "right thing" without it.

conditioned whumpee who was taught to see the pain as a good thing, giving it to themselves as a twisted sort of reward. how would a caretaker react upon finding out that their praise was causing whumpee to hurt themselves?

on a similar note to the last one, and a classic: a whumpee who hurts themselves because they feel undeserving of anything but pain. to balance out the kindness theyre given.

whumpee convinced caretaker wants them to hurt themselves whenever they upset caretaker. or maybe caretaker has made it clear that they don't like it but whumpee cant stop.

a whumpee whose whumper catches them hurting themselves. would they be mocked for it? punished? comforted? ignored? what about whumper stepping in and offering to finish the job?

alternatively, caretaker walks in on whumpee hurting themselves.

further alternatively, a carewhumper who walks in on whumpee hurting themselves and offers to help because it's clearly what whumpee wants.

using the pain as a distraction from the actual emotions. this is the most common reason people turn to self-harm and one that is seriously underutilized. the emotions get so overwhelming and the rush to ground themselves to escape it only worsens, so what better way to do that then with pain?

a whumpee who doesnt understand why they hurt themselves. a whumpee who, when confronted by caretaker, can only scramble and explain that it just helps. that they have to, even if they dont understand why.

whumpee harming themselves for the sake of the scars, either renewing old scars that are starting to fade so the proof of what happened stays or adding new scars in order to have their pain acknowledged by others.

being ordered by whumper to hurt themselves for whatever reason.

slightly more specific scenario ones under the cut:

I love when they start telling people in grusome detail what happened to them and caretaker/s are just trying to be supportive but like what are they supposed to say to that?

Also if whumpee starts showing off their scars

as they cut the thread off, handler orders, "all done. get in the car," as they remove the belt from whumpee's mouth. without giving it any thought, a "no," slips out, obstinate and clipped. whumpee keeps their head turned away.

their failure plays like a video on loop in their head, over and over and over again. their hesitation cost hundreds of innocent people their lives. it's not fair.

"get in the car," handler repeats themself. steel underlines their tone, danger boiling beneath the surface.

when whumpee fails to comply in the stipulated five second period, they find themself pressed against the hood of the car, the metal digging into their freshly stitched wound. "whatever punishment you are seeking," handler hisses in their ear, sharp like a razor, "your superiors are itching to grant it. in fact, I'll be damned if you will be able to recite your own code once they are done with you. now get in the bloody car."

tears slip down whumpee's face, a steady chant of weak, weak, weak echoing in their head as they climb in it. they know that handler's right. they'll be screaming themself hoarse— if that will be allowed— by the end of today.

Constantly being checked on, hugged, pitied. The trauma latches onto friends, family, lovers.

But not whumpee. They're always just... fine. They never bring up what happened. Maybe they're even confused about what all the fuss is about? It's all over now, shouldn't we all be happy?

It starts to feel like whumpee is comforting everyone else even though they're the one who suffered most.

Sure they remember whumper, but did anything really even happen? The way everyone is acting makes them uncomfortable. It seems really over the top.

Whumper didn't really do anything bad, but they can't really think about it for very long.

The past few years feel like a blurr.

They could remember if they wanted to (surely), but they just don't like to dwell on it

Normally they don't have to think about it. Except when people make everything weird. Checking on them every five minutes. Censoring themselves around whumpee. Acting like they're fragile

They wish everyone would just forget about it

When they look in the mirror and see new scars that doesn't really feel like them anyway. Not their body not their scars

Nothing happened to them

But people keep asking questions and they're too ashamed to tell them they don't know the answers. They know how it looks.

"Sorry I shouldn't have asked that. It must be hard to talk about. "

It isn't hard to talk about

They want to reasure them, tell them it's fine they can ask whatever they want, that answering questions doesn't feel bad, but they just can't remember the answers. They get all frozen up

They watch their friends cry about it. Hear the kind of things they whisper about happening to whumpee but whumpee is too ashamed to deny it. Even though it's not true. They don't remember any of those things happening.

They're making it sound way worse than it was

But when they try to deny it they get confused. Stumble over their words

Nothing happened

They know it didn't happen

They'd remember if it did

oh that hits real real good.

the sort of selective justification of okay, i can have help for this because i have an Excuse. i was horrifically hurt and traumatized and abused and i have an Excuse to need help, to need care. but only about this. anything else i still have to tough it through alone, i have to be an adult about this, i have to get over myself.

and the people in their life who want to help them find out and just... why would you hide this? you were so sick, why didn't you call? you know we'd be here for you.

yeah, you have been here for me, but this isn't about that. this isn't whumper. this is just- i just got sick.
