you probably only heard him sing during panic! shows and songs. the reason he doesn’t sound so great is most likely because of the fact that the songs simply do not suit his range. since brendon was the lead vocalist, the songs would rather obviously be tailored to his range, so that the song would sound good. ryan’s and brendon’s ranges were quite different, which would support the fact that the songs didn’t suit ryan’s range. since the songs didn’t quite work well with ryan’s range, it would most likely lead to him forcing a few notes/having to change where the voice comes from (idk how to say it exactly, but… an example would be from head voice to chest voice, or vice versa).

listen to ryan’s solo music live - he is not a shitty singer. you can hear that he hits all the notes.

sure, his range may not be as wide as brendon’s or patrick’s, but range isn’t everything.
