OC vs OP
What's the difference between old and new Oxycontin 40/80s
been going down a rabbit hole on the 2010 reformulation and i'm genuinely curious if anyone here actually lived through both eras can speak to the real differences. searched the sub and wiki but most threads are just nostalgia wars without much substance.
from what i've read:
- OC (pre-2010): smoother onset, different release profile
- OP (post-2010): abuse-deterrent, turns gummy when tampered with, slower release
question is: was the OC actually that much better subjectively, or is everyone just chasing ghosts? came across some old blister-packed stock recently and it got me wondering if there's a real pharmacological difference or if it's mostly placebo at this point.
also curious how either compares to the generic ER oxycodone we got now. same active molecule but i've heard the release mechanisms vary between manufacturers.
asking from a harm reduction and pharmacology nerd standpoint - just trying to separate actual formulation science from the mythos. anyone with genuine experience on both sides willing to share?
