Hello - I saw you make a post about Frisians in akotsk. I am writing a fic and need to ride for an extended period and know NOTHING. What kind of horse is Baelor riding when he arrives and would it be suitable for travelling distances. (Context: in the story they are chasing down Matarys and his friends who've snuck out to go hunting and are about a days ride away)?

Hey hey, realistically speaking no one in their right mind would chose to ride a friesian for a prolonged amount of time over any larger distance. Friesians are generally far more suited for driving and their (nowadays) fairly exxagerated gait makes them absolutely uncomfortable to sit. (As in you ARE going to be sore as shit, even if you're used to sitting on horseback for hours.) I've known several trainers who absolutely loathe having friesians in training, unless they get to work the things from the ground/in hand, where they are generally considered a pleasure to have.)

That being said you're writing fic for a medieval fantasy world, so I probably wouldn't get too hung up on breed specifics and rather do some research on the different 'types' of medieval horse. (Destrier/Courser/Palfrey/Rouncy etc) and familiarize yourself with their uses. In your setting, for example, you'd probably go for a palfrey-type more than anything else.
