He's not the first gay character I encountered but he did help form the base of like, expectations. Like I don't have to beg for scraps or do deep analysis on queer coding vs queer baiting or accept jokes and background characters as #Representation.

When the different universes were collapsing into each other and he suddenly had his homophobic brother Cal it added the context that Night Vale was not a magical place without homophobia, Cecil had just been bravely open and out this entire time. I love him, even if he doesn't call back his friends and airs their secrets on public radio.
