Danny: ok, Bobby, 10 minutes. What do you need?

Bobby: *overlapping Danny and Rusty* It’s my idiot son. He’s got into some kind of trouble at school and his teacher wants to meet with us to discuss it or something. Molly’s in France and I…don’t want to deal with him right now. So could you go bail him out, or whatever these parent-teacher conferences are about.

(*Danny and Rusty overlapping Bobby*

Rusty: you have the—?

Danny: in your pocket.

Rusty: this mask better be worth it.

Ruben buys an F1 team. He could ask ANYONE. Any driver in the world to fill the second seat, drivers with experience, drivers who would be VERY willing to return to F1 and he goes straight for Sonny. He BEGS him to come back, actually begs him and Sonny?? Goes right back not because the team is good or because he missed F1 so much but because he TRUSTS Ruben to do something good with the team. The people at APX are like “why tf do we need him” and Ruben is ofc like “let the boy do his thing”

Ruben didn’t know how serious Sonny’s injuries were. When he finds out his immediate and I mean IMMEDIATE reaction is that Sonny can’t continue racing. That’s it. It doesn’t matter that he’s actually good, doesn’t matter that he is the team’s last hope, Ruben would never forgive himself if something happened to Sonny, so he’s out without question. And their conversation in that hospital room? Don’t even get me started. “We’re drivers” “We’re not. We are just… sentimental idiots”

When Sonny gets the deal to betray the team he just got kicked out of, not only does he reject it, he comes back to PULL the team out of the shit. Of course he thinks about the team as it’s entirety but also it’s the fact that the potential failure would cost Ruben the team. Kate might find another job and JP has options too but for Ruben his F1 dream might be over and Sonny is aware of that.

And through it all it’s the fact that these two actually raced against each other when they were young and were RIVALS even. Now let’s remember who co-produced the movie…

And for my final point, because they keep bringing up shit like “then it would be revenge for Monaco”, may I humbly ask
