TL;DR: I need money to stay in school next year so I can stay in this country, but I have been unable to save because of an ableist boss cutting my hours

Hey guys,

I’m really embarrassed to do this but I feel like I’m running out of options, I really need to start saving if I want to stay in this country.

As many of you know one of my internet friends recently helped me move to New Zealand because my home situation was getting very dangerous and abusive. I’m here on a student visa, so I need to be able to pay for school next year or else I have to go back to my physically and emotionally abusive family.

I’ve been working at a pet store, but my boss cut me down to 1 shift a week because he was being super ableist. Basically he would follow me around and babysit me after I had been working there for Months because he thinks I’m so fucking incompetent that I don’t know how to do anything. I have a learning disability and mental illnesses which make it so I “sound disabled” a lot of the time, especially when I’m stressed or nervous. So believe me when I say I’m used to ableism but he was insane, I can go into more detail if you guys want.

Also, I’m not physically disabled but I have back pain that can get pretty bad. My boss would get mad at me if I sat on the floor while working on the bottom shelves. He said it’s “dirty” and when I sit on the floor and then go sit on the foldable chairs in the break room I’m getting germs from the floor Near where he eats. Instead he wanted me to squat for Hours, which I obviously can’t do. Some days it got so bad that it hurt to breathe. Last time I saw him he asked me if I Knew How To Squat.. this is how stupid he thinks I am. I’ve literally never had a job before where I wasn’t allowed to sit on the floor while working on bottom shelves.

He told me that me sitting on the floor and “not knowing how to do my job” (I do know how) are the reasons why he cut me down to one shift a week. I can’t even pay my rent now and I’m really burning through my savings. I’m currently trying to find a new job but I really need some money to keep me afloat while I’m waiting for someone to respond to my application.
