TMF would be relatively shorter if Jake just directly asked Drew what his problem with the music club is
So as we know, TMF was built around Jake's growing friendship with the music club but at the same time deteriorating his friendship with the dromies, and it was clearly miscommunication between Jake and Drew that led up to the events that happened in the last episode. But I think the series were shorter and be more resolved if Jake directly addressed the root cause of his problem among his friends: and it's simply Drew's problem with the music club. (because he seems to be the one affected the most when Jake considers the very same people Drew bullied/despised as his friends.)
From what I have observed from the series, Drew actually looked like he was quite open to communication. I mean, he talks with his friends a lot and in return, he even tries to listen to them no matter what absurd topic they might be into. This is being shown when he was talking to his friends about Zoey being suspicious in Episode 5 (but Jake wasn't even listening!), and when he tries to talk to Jake, asking him why he was sulking after school in Episode 9. Not to mention, he was just THAT upset when he said, "Well, how am I supposed to know anything about your passion, when you don't tell me a damn thing anymore?" Drew just really wanted Jake to actually talk to him, fr. At this point, Drew is always the one who is initiating any kind of interaction or communication between him and Jake. Whenever Jake talks, Drew never fails to listen to him, though.
AND OFC Jake, on the other hand... he barely even tried.
Jake was probably caught up with his excitement of finally being part of the music club and trying to gain the trust of every member, till there's a point that he barely tries to make an effort to hang out with Drew again. At Episode 8 right after Drew and Hailey's argument, when he told Drew, "I'll hang out with you guys after school, we can catch up then, okay?" Guys, I don't know, but the way Jake says it gave me the impression that Jake's forcing himself to hang out with Drew like it's an obligation, and just to stop escalating the situation. I mean, he clearly wanted to stay longer with Hailey in the music room and wants Drew to leave. And if Drew didn't bother them in there, Jake wouldn't have wanted to hang out with him. Jake doesn't look too excited hanging out with Drew and the others after school in Ep. 9. It's always Drew reaching out, not Jake. But Drew still believed in Jake because he held onto Jake's words when Jake said, "You guys are my homies. Of course I prefer you guys."
Jake had too many chances to talk to Drew.
If he only saw the bigger picture, he could've simply tried asking Drew what his problem with the music club is. Maybe he could have tried that in Episode 9 in Drew's house after witnessing the heated argument between him and Hailey. They could have sat down and talk about it alone and maybe, just maybe, Jake could've understood Drew better. Maybe then, Drew would even become a lesser asshole if only at least one person could see right through him, because there's clearly a reason why Drew acts the way he does. Jake has witnessed Drew bully people for years, at some point he could have asked Drew why he does that, right? And it wouldn't even put a risk on their friendship, because Jake is just simply going to ask a question. He didn't have to be scared with doing this, because it's different from telling Drew that he wanted to stay in the music club even after the competition.
At Episode 10, when Jake talked to Lia, he said, "I just don't understand what everyone's problem is with them!," Jake, darling, has it crossed your mind to ask that exact question to Drew, maybe even Liam and Henry, not just Lia? Because when he asked that to Lia, she just said, "I don't really," which means she doesn't have a problem with the club at all or their passion with music, she's just jealous because Jake paid more attention to them than with her. And if Jake would ask this to Liam and Henry, they'd probably rethink their own actions, too. And Jake has a chance to hear Drew's explanation instead of just accusing him about the recording (which is something Drew didn't even do), making things worse. And for that, I understand when Drew said he's done with Jake, because Drew's tired. He's tired of being the only one making an effort for their friendship. He's tired of being lied to. The light in his eyes faded because Drew has given up. In season 2 on his design reveal, he looked so isolated. Not even trying to have fun with Liam and Henry.
But despite it all, I wouldn't have TMF in any other way. Maybe Jake and Drew's broken friendship was meant to happen in order for them to end the toxic parts of their friendship, heal and fix themselves first before trying to make amends (which i hope is going to be a long process) and the Jake plush beside Drew at the arcade on his design reveal just shows that in season 2, maybe it's not truly the end of their friendship. Because it symbolizes that even after Jake's gone from Drew's circle, they could never deny the fact that Jake was once a part of them, and will still be if they try to fix things. Maybe after everything, this would help Jake realize that he's not a perfect friend, and he doesn't have to be a perfect friend, and realize where he fell short with his own friendship with Drew. And maybe Drew would realize how much of an asshole he is, too, and how Jake gets affected by it. And I can't wait to see it being delved further in season 2^^ besides, there's no fun when there's no angst anyway LMAO
(sorry for yapping it's just a random thought and I still love all the characters TvT)
