How to quickly update your TS3 options file without launching the game after graphics driver update
I used to follow a guide on twitter by Acidlure on updating the options file after a graphics driver update without having to launch the game to create a new options file, but unfortunately it isn't available anymore and after not updating my drivers for over a year (oopsie) I almost forgot how to do it since I couldn't find anything else on it, so this will also be a guide for future me too π
-> This guide uses dxdiag which is a Windows tool, but there should be something similar on other operating systems that you might be able to work with if you do not use Windows. Step 1: Not mandatory, but I recommend making a back up of your Options file somewhere. Step 2: Update your graphics drivers. Step 3: Search and open up a program called dxdiag.exe on your pc. Go to the Display tab, then on the right hand side window copy the last 4 digits of the version number:
Step 4: Open up your Options file in your Sims 3 documents folder, press CTRL + F to open up the search bar and type in "lastdevice". Then replace the last 4 numbers with the ones you copied in dxdiag:
lastdevice = 0;10de;1c03;8180
Now you can open up and play your game and your settings should stay the same! π

Sims 3 Performance ASI: EA App, Nexus, Source Code
Hey everyone, me again.
So that mod blew up. 1600+ downloads in about a week. I know many mods get far more, but stiiiill, it's exciting. Thank you for everyone who downloaded and shared feedback!
So here's a more-or-less finished version (might add more stuff if anything surfaces, or if anyone reports embarrassing bugs), properly uploaded on the Nexus. Source also included (not GitHub atm, meh, but you can download and see everything you need from the Nexus link).
Also...EA app support! Yaaay! Special thanks to riperviwe for being a test subject and sending live logs to make it possible.
DOWNLOAD HERE!
And please let me know if anything breaks, thanks.

girl who finally is going back to reading by finishing one book: now i'm going to read all the books in the world.
So Slammin's the new Crash huh?
Love that Kara's reaction to Jon is "Kal-El, congratulations on The Sex!"
What kind of TTRPGs do you like? I love Pathfinder 2e and my friends want to do a Dagggerheart game but I feel like I'm so out of my depth. My knowledge of TTRPGs is so limited
I most recently have been playing ADnD 2e with my friends, that game is quite fun but horribly brutal. My wizard can be one-shot by literally anything.
I have been trying to get a Daggerheart game set up recently, too! It seems like a great time.
My favorite little TTRPG that I found is You Awaken in a Strange Place. It is on itch.io and is designed to be quick and completely chaotic. If you have got a group that is good at improv, THIS is the game to play. It is a great time. It is not designed for campaigns, though. It has to be ran as a one-shot.
i play a lot of ttrpgs, and have for well over a decade at this point (i started with pathfinder 1e & dnd 3.5), so here is a wildly incomplete list of Good And Interesting/Unique TTRPGs that i recommend checking out if they sound cool to you!
Darker / More Serious ttrpgs:
Dread is a one-shot only horror system where character creation is "answer these extremely loaded and leading questions" and the entire resolution mechanic is "pull some number of blocks from a shared jenga tower, if the tower falls, your character dies". I can wholeheartedly recommend the prewritten one-shot Beneath A Metal Sky, which is a sci-fi horror scenario involving an abandoned ship floating in space. it is by far my favorite halloween one-shot to run.
Mothership is a rules-light sci-fi horror game with lots of anti-corp philosophy baked right in to it. You can teach the whole game in about 15 minutes and the Warden's Manual (gm guide) is genuinely one of the best things that has ever been written about How To Gm -- i genuinely recommend giving it a read if you run ANY ttrpgs. this is the system of my current campaign, and its been a complete blast!
Heart: The City Beneath is not a game i have personally played, but i have read it, and i have also played its sister game, Spire: The City Must Fall (more on that later). Heart is a horror game about going to parts of reality you should never go to in search of things you should never have, while the strange hole in reality you've entered into keeps presenting you with worse and more fucked up versions of the thing you want until you take it. and then you die.
Spire: The City Must Fall is a deeply political game of clandestine resistance in an apartheid state, and your characters will not win. The resistance will not succeed. You will begin the game with friends, community, money, and safety, and you will end the game dead, alone, and destitute. It's the best TTRPG i've ever played, but its also Complete Hell to GM and absolutely full of potentially-triggering content, so tread cautiously. It also has the best and funniest class feats i have ever seen in a ttrpg, and i honestly think the rulebook is worth a look just for those.
Mausritter is an OSR game -- rules-light and quite deadly -- where every player is a mouse in a sword-and-board fantasy world. Not a mouse-person, to be clear: an actual mouse. You are small, and vulnerable, and very brave, and the world is huge, and unforgiving, and full of danger. it's really, really fun, and the art is incredibly charming.
Lighthearted ttrpgs:
Yazeba's Bed and Breakfast is a gm-less, fixed-cast ttrpg about the various shenanigans that occur at the aforementioned magical Bed and Breakfast, which is owned by a witch named Yazeba. The moment to moment gameplay varies based on the scenario, but it is very improv-heavy, and between sessions it has upkeep that is most similar to that of a legacy board game.
Wanderhome is a pastoral, collaborative ttrpg where every player is an anthropomorphic animal wandering from town to town. it can be played with or without a gm, and has mechanics for the weather and seasons. I've not played it myself, but if what you're after is a chill game about helping people and finding yourself, this is probably a game for you to check out.
Honey Heist is a deeply silly PWYW one-shot game where the players are trying to pull off a daring, complicated heist -- and also they are all Actual Bears. Shenanigans ensue.
Goblin With A Fat Ass is a PWYW one-shot game where you are a group of goblins who are trying to steal from the richest guy in town, but your Fat Goblin Asses keep causing problems. It's deeply, deeply silly, and while i have never personally played it, i really want to some day.
Misc / other / only kind of ttrpgs:
Microscope is a collective history building game. You and some friends decide on a world, a starting era, and an ending era, and then players take turns adding events to the timeline. person-level events gets roleplayed by the players, but broader scope events are just described by the person adding them. its unlike any other game i have played, and it's really, really good.
i'm sorry did you say street magic is like Microscope, but on the scale of a city rather than a world. i've heard very good things, though i haven't yet managed to play it myself.
Thousand Year Old Vampire is a solo journaling game about being a vampire. but it's actually mostly about losing your memory, your concept of self, and your humanity. I highly recommend it, especially if you like creative writing exercises.

i NEED people to realise foreshadowing is. in fact. a literary device. and not a Bad Thing. the audience picking up on your hints is a Good Thing. because. it makes the story and itβs conclusion make sense. and some people will not see those but enjoy seeing them on a second read through. red herrings are one thing but if your novel consists of nothing but red herrings itβs not a coherent story itβs just a collection of paragraphs that donβt actually plausibly link to one another. you're not fighting with the audience you donβt look clever you look like you donβt know how basic fiction works. be vulnerable for once in your goddamn life and don't treat writing like a game to be won where the audience losing is a good thing.
Getting to the end of a story and going "THE CLUES WERE THERE THE WHOLE TIME!" is always joyous for me whether or not I picked up on the clues leading up
If I saw the clues and caught the hints then yes! I am clever and me and the author/creator/artist etc were in on it together the whole time!
If I didn't notice the clues or got fooled but can clearly see them in hindsight then "Ha! You won this time storyteller! I am delighted by this game we play!' and then I enjoy putting the pieces together afterwards and enjoying how clever it was. I feel like the creator respects me as an audience
If there is a "twist" that comes with 0 clues or foreshadowing at all I'm annoyed. I'm pissed off. I feel like I'm being condescended to and patronised. It's not clever or interesting and makes me annoyed I ended up caring about characters and plot points that ended up meaningless.
Because it's not that these stories don't have foreshadowing or plot clues. They just abandon it for a "surprising twist"
A story that pays off the clues is letting me into the fun and makes a participant in the story
A story that just gives me a "shock" but no pay off is telling me not to engage or get attached or care. So why would I watch?
When you remember how much you love a character you hadnβt thought about in a while
