in happier pride news i actually found this deeply heartwarming
that's solidarity baybeeee
Further context: Durham city council (Reform UK) cut funding and support for Pride. The Durham Miner's Association and other trade unions raised enough money for Durham Pride 2026 to go ahead - a direct call back to when Lesbian and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM) raised money for mining communities when Margaret Thatcher seized union funding during the miner strikes of 1984-85.
At the 1985 Labour party meet, the motion to support LGBT rights as a party was passed due to a block vote from mining unions.
Stephen Guy, the chair of the Durham Miners’ Association, said that when it became apparent Durham Pride was under threat, he took it upon himself to “encourage the trade union movement to step up and do the right thing, and stand shoulder to shoulder with the LGBT+ community […] They not only raised funds for us, but came to our communities, uplifted our spirits when they were down, and showed their solidarity.”
The movie Pride is about the miners strike and how Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners overcame homophobia and won the support of the union. I greatly enjoyed watching and highly recommend it!
do not forget the patron saint of these weeks that we celebrate ourselves proudly and openly in the streets
her name was Marsha P Johnson, and we have her to thank for so much.
remember, the first Pride was a riot, and she was one of the brave souls who endured it to help carve the path which so many of us walk today. she helped found several activist groups regarding LGBT safety and wellbeing. and she was absolutely radiant, too.
thank you, Marsha. we remember you.
Forgot to post this here. Take him in his big dumb defenseman glory

Ask Game!
4. What are you looking forward to right now?
7. What's your favorite way to travel? Is there a mode of travel you haven't done that you want to experience?
4. Building a bioactive enclosure for my snake. The tank I want is on back order so as soon as it comes in I can get my supplies and start building!
7. Road trips. I love driving and hate flying (not for fear reasons, it’s just a pain in the ass and I like being able to stop where and when I want). I also love anything involving boats. I did a long distance overnight train trip once and that was really fun — I’d love to do it again, like one of those cross country multi-day trips.
I don’t travel nearly as much as I used to but I’d love to be able to do it again.
Thanks for the ask! ❤️
12 & 16 for the ask game!

HI BEEF *waves frantically*
12. dishes or laundry?
Laundry all day every day. The only part I don’t actually like is carrying everything up and down two flights of stairs. I’d commit unnatural acts for a second floor laundry room (or a chute like I had in the house I grew up in). I hate dishes less than I used to, now that I have a dishwasher, but I still hate them.
16. what's a piece of advice you would give to yourself five years ago?
Just quit your job and start the business already. It’ll work out better than you think.

I don't read as much fic as I used to but one "tell" for non Canadians writing us, besides the etransfer, is the units you use to describe us measuring something. I hate to tell you this but The Chart is real and it's completely subconscious. Please abide
ETA the chart (or at least a version of it):
ETA2: we do use inches/miles in poetic ways ("he was lost in thought/miles away" or "his lips were a bare inch away").
Also, the length of a dick is in inches for SURE.
