If you aren't playing Wisher, Theurgist, Fatalist, then you have no legitimate need for the rules of Wisher, Theurgist, Fatalist (WTF 45)
But character generation is done before one begins play (WTF 62)
And the character generation procedures for an RPG are commonly understood as part of the game rules [citation needed]
These three premises add up to a contradiction, where the only two escapes are by asserting that WTF's character creation procedures are not, in fact, rules of WTF but instead something else, perhaps setting elements or norms of play culture, or by coming to the conclusion that it is not possible to legitimately create a WTF character.
a more pressing question is whether you were playing WTF when you wrote this post and if not what the heck you thought you were doing using its rules
When people say things like "Behold the Accursed One!" that doesn't imply any ill intent on their part -- quite often it's meant as a neutral or even helpful statement. But the problem with this sort of language is that, however well-intentioned it may be, it foregrounds the curse at the expense of the person behind it; auguries have shown that this can have a priming effect that subtly reduces empathy. For that reason, experts today encourage people to use one-first language, such as "Behold the One who Bears the Curse," to better emphasize the dignity of the individual.
I’ve now taken multiple art/architectural theory courses that have required either a freeform art project or a zine relevant to the course’s topics, for which I’ve submitted what I would consider to be very basic journaling TTRPGs (basically, small booklets that pose some questions or scenarios to think about in the context of the surrounding environment). And every time they’ve received amazement and praise disproportional to how simple and effortless they felt to me, especially when considering that I’m not even particularly experienced with this specific subgenre. It makes me feel like there’s a lot of very interesting things going on within TTRPGS, and particularly the indie side of things, that many other disciplines could look into and find something meaningful. And I think that’s neat!
imagine reverse bimbofication art in the style of the bimbofication brainwashing posts. YOU ARE SO FUCKING SMART, USE YOUR GENIUS MIND, YOU ARE EVERYTHING. YOU CAN MASTER ANY FUCKING SUBJECT IN THE WORLD *flashing hypno spirals interupted by photos of prominent women scientists and graphs from quantum mechanics papers*

An idea that exists in the sphere of public consciousness in Finland is that Finnish people have a "unique relationship with nature," which I guess is supposed to signal the fact that We Got Trees Here and Some People Think That's Nice. Anyway, my partner's workplace recently started ordering Maaseudun Tulevaisuus (Future of the Countryside or something), a magazine that basically acts as the mouthpiece for the agriculture and forestry industries. All of the stories she has told me about having been featured in that magazine sound like they basically amount to "I fucking hate nature why is it getting in the way of my industry."
Deer: exist
Finnish farmers with a unique relationship to nature: I WANT YOU TO FUCKING DIE
Finnish politicians: We need to listen to farmers' and foresters' legitimate concerns so we can keep the countryside healthy and vibeant
Finnish farmers and foresters: Have we considered nuclear weapons against the wolves
I am That I am (a furry)
I've heard it said by other people, and I'm gonna agree: Sam of Rhystic Studies is one of the best video essayists on youtube. From writing, to technical presentation, to delivery, to the insights offered, he's absolutely setting the standard for good videos.
If he wasn't insisting on making videos exclusively about old magic the gathering stuff, people would talk about him in the same breath as, like, dan olsen and jacob gellar.
even if you don't play magic, I really reccomend looking into his videos if you're interested in art, games, graphic design, etc.
A soulslike set in Ravenloft would be hilarious because, okay, yeah, it's got the whole King Big Sad Guy, Who Did The Flame Thing deal, except most Darklords are pissant local powers whose hubris only broke reality for a few dozen square miles, so you'd end up touring a miniature version of every possible Gothic post-apocalypse.
Here's Castle Dracula and its immediate environs with the serial numbers filed off. Over the mountains are eight city blocks of Renaissance Venice inexplicably ruled by were-rats. Across the river is Evil Shakespeare Land, the domain of Evil Shakespeare. No, he doesn't call himself that, but you know it's him.
I never thought I would be siding with the pope’s involvement in politics and cheering him on. I will say that.

my lord. the two statues you commissioned are finally complete. yeah, the double-order with the vast and trunkless legs of stone and the shattered visage. i like to think we captured the sneer of cold command pretty well. it's a really thought-provoking piece my lord. very deconstructionist. i'm sure that even a traveller a thousand years from now could take one look at it and instantly recognise it must have come from an artistically enlightened culture
I'm sorry but the RPG reddit community taking their already very strict anti-self promotion and amending it to include any mention of your games in any discussion context is hilarious. I just spent hours scrolling there to see if there's anything worth engaging with that wouldn't get deleted? It's the same repetitive threads over and over. Why have a community about games where people can't...talk about games.
I'm sorry but what the fuck is wrong with you people. Do you even like games??????
The really funny part about them responding "it's okay because if your game is of interest to this community someone else will post about it" is that the very same update that classified all discussion of games you created yourself as self-promotion also added a stipulation that if a newly created account or an existing account with no substantial history of activity on that particular community posts about any game that doesn't already have an established body of discussion, the mods will assume you're the game in question's author in disguise and treat it as self-promotion. So in practice, you're just not allowed to post about games that aren't already being discussed at all unless the mods like you.

yknow i really like tom bombadil and a big part of that is how much he fits into LotR's framing narrative... like, it seems so obvious to me that tom bombadil is an important folkloric figure in a culture that the in-kayfabe "original narrative" passed through to become the version "translated" by tolkein, and in that light everything about him and his dissonance and his status as this strange disconnected interlude make such perfect sense, right? that at some point someone in a culture that expected tom bombadil to be in every epic story wrote or told this tale and felt obliged to include him, and by the arbitrary ravages of history that's the version that's survived to this day... to me it does so much for LotR really feeling like an ancient epic embedded in a specific cultural context and history...
Tabletop RPG with an old school "you can die during character creation" lifepath system, except most of the disqualifying events are stuff like "made it to adulthood with no major traumas" or "discovered a love of carpentry", so your actual goal is to make just enough bad life decisions that your character is a big enough loser to become an adventurer.
Starting out in a coastal community is regarded by some as an optimal choice because if you have the bad luck to end up happily married you can make a saving throw to see if your spouse is subsequently eaten by a whale.
Wouldn't any location let you do a save to see if they die a premature and violent death?
Often, yes, but "eaten by a whale" gives the biggest bonus by a substantial margin when checking to see whether you develop a revenge complex.
