The term “situationship” is KILLING romance!
Why take something beautiful and fascinating like an undefined impractical romance and describe it with some vape-esque word like situationship. A spiritually heterosexual word. You’re supposed to write genre defining poetry about this kind of madness, and yet “situationship” is the term we’re choosing to use these days. OKAY.
japanese game dev in the 90s: hey dude can you make some music for our game about anime girls getting fucked sloppy style
guy who's about to push the PC-98 sound card to its absolute limit and create the most heartachingly beautiful music you've ever heard: Yeah okay
Look, I know it's funny to say the PC-98 eroge had a stellar soundtrack for 'just an eroge'. But that is extremely dismissive of what YU-NO is and how it shaped the landscape of future releases in the era. Like we're talking about a game with time travel that lets you set down checkpoints in time, so you can collect items across multiple timelines and solve a series of mysteries. It's a story so long and complicated, it had been in Kanno's mind and developing for over a decade. It's a story that doesn't even properly work as a show or movie, it has to be a game. This title was extremely influential to how the sci-fi genre evolved in the adventure game medium of this era in japan. Titles like Steins;Gate wouldn't exist in nearly the same fashion, KEY works would be entirely different, other adventure game producing companies started trying to push themselves to match YU-NO's high production values. I'm sorry but you can be funny without being dismissive of something that had a huge cultural impact on a medium of storytelling.
the composer Ryu Umemoto left his well-paying job scoring licensed games at FamilySoft to work in the pc-98 eroge scene because of the creative freedom it allowed him. he and the writer Hiroyuki Kanno worked together on several ambitious games for various small erotic games companies. there's a great obituary that talks about his life, here: click.

You actually cannot skip to being good at a creative endeavour that you haven't put much practice into. You cannot trick your way out of the 'knows that your work is not what you want it to be but don't know how to improve it' stage by planning or reading or talking about it really really hard. At some point you just have to craft through it until your brain finds it's own unique way back to the 'everything I make slaps' stage and be prepared to start the cycle all over again. You just have to make that project you're excited about slightly less good than you want it to be. (Says this standing in a pool of blood and covered in blood and also coughing up a little blood)
everyone stop reblogging this I hate to be reminded of my own good advice

Classics I’d Recommend if You’re Scared of Them
Carmilla by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu- this one is a precursor to Dracula and feels more manageable in length and story. It’s about a young lonely girl whose family takes in a mysterious stranger and they become attached until a horrible secret is revealed.
Leaves of Grass by Walt Whitman- basically a big long poem that stands on themes of nature, sexuality, being, and life. I really liked this book because you can read it cohesively and then afterwards I like flipping to random pages.
To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf- I’m reading this one right now and I really enjoy Woolf’s way of prose-writing a novel. She does a good job keeping the reader involved and writing beautifully.
The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka- a short story that packs a LOT into it. If you haven’t already heard of it, The Metamorphosis is about Gregor Samsa who wakes up one morning to find he’s now a giant beetle. This story is short, but made me emotional by the end.
Beloved by Toni Morrison- published in the 20th century, this is a great book to get yourself immersed in more recent classics. Toni Morrison is a power house of an author and writes beautifully, tragically, and with so much heart.
some things never change~🤍🖤
I got hired to write a light-hearted romantasy story, and I really hope this is light-hearted and romantic enough:
very very happy that this line made it through the editing process

The entire point of, OK, my phone really wants to call it Anastasia so I guess we’re doing that? The entire point of Anastasia (as administered by a board-certified Anastasiologist) during sugary. Sugary? Haven’t I suffered enough? The entire point of Anastasia during augury. Jesus Christ. Hold up. You know what, augury is preferable to sugary. Augury is obviously performed by an auger (makes sense if you give it a think) whereas sugary is performed by…? A sugardaddy? NO THANK YOU. Anyway. The entire point of Anastasia is so that you don’t know what music your sturgeon. Fuck right off. Was playing. While you were under. You’re not supposed to wake up from Anastasia and immediately realize you managed to get earwormed by Motörhead’s “Ace of Spades” during your sugary.
How to Write When You Don't Feel Like Yourself
There are going to be days (or weeks, or months) where you sit down to write and feel... disconnected. From your voice, from your characters, from your ideas. Like the person who used to write your stories just packed up and left.
They didn't. They're just tired. Here's how to keep writing anyway:
Lower the bar (Until it's on the floor) You are not here to write something brilliant. You are here to write something. A paragraph. A sentence. A single line of dialogue. Movement matters way more than quality.
Write around the story Don't force it. If you can't write the scene, try: ⋆ A character ramble / journal entry ⋆ A conversation that won't be included in the final draft ⋆ A list of things the character would never admit out loud ⋆ A messy summary of what should happen Engage with the story from a different angle.
Borrow a voice until yours comes back No, not with AI. Read something that feels close to what you want to write, or watch a scene that captures the tone, then write immediately after. Not to copy, to reignite your instincts.
Write the emotion, not the plot. What is your character feeling in this moment? What are they afraid of? What do they want but won't say? What's being kept from them? The emotion leads, the plot catches up later.
Stop trying to "feel like a writer" first. You don't write when you feel like a writer. You feel like a writer because you write.
You are still a writer, even on the days it feels distant. Especially then.
