One specific flaw in a lot of claims about trans women being "sexual offenders" at cartoonishly high rates, turns out to be that women and even young girls who were arrested for doing sex work are often listed in these claims as "sex offenders", a deliberate tactic to conflate very different criminalized behaviors.
(Ntm they're often measuring 'trans women convicted of sex-adjacent crimes' as a total of the 'trans women in prison at all for any reason' and claiming that percentage is representative of the general population. Which if you think for 2 seconds makes zero sense even when their sample size is more than the like, 30 people most of these studies claim. And other obvious tricks, like measuring all trans people when convenient and only trans women when convenient and conflating those two groups, or even occasionally lumping cisgender men in with trans women to make the statistics do what they want.)
I genuinely think we need to be digging up those heavily-sourced debunks we were circulating like ten years ago, bc sooooo many people have no idea just HOW disingenuous this propaganda is, and I genuinely think more accurate public education might help this situation at least a little, at least for some people.
