what an emotional rollercoaster vol 1 has been.. from gaining major byler hope with will and robin scenes, to sudden doubt with the tammy speech, and finally regaining hope again with the last scene of ep 4 i feel like i’m going insaneee!!
that byler doubt was really getting to me but i have to ask the question.. why? why build up mike and will’s relationship for so long if it doesn’t end in requited love? why carefully place those two together, make their scenes stand out and cinematically beautiful, have them brush shoulders, lingering looks, parallel them to other couples, and heavily pin the focus on their relationship (especially the ep 4 flashback scene) if it doesn’t conclude to something positive for both of them?
i just can’t see it being unrequited with will “moving on” and mike not liking him back. it genuinely makes zero sense. it’s also important to note we didn’t get mikes pov in vol 1 so hopefully in vol 2 we’ll finally get to see what’s going on in that head of his. i’m also hoping the painting will be addressed because no way they put so much focus on it in season 4 just for it to be forgotten this season?

Man, I'm halfway through season 3 on my rewatch rn, and I know it's been said a million times before, but seeing Will finally get the chance to participate in the mystery-solving and monster-hunting makes it hurt so much more that most people basically just see him as a limp punching bag with a bowl cut and a printed-out picture of a sad face taped onto the side. Permanently miserable, deeply fragile, and always on the verge of tears, even when he's directly said to Jonathan that that's not true!
Because if there's one thing that Will does, that kid stands the fuck up for himself!!! He's pushy and obnoxious as hell about getting his D&D game, as he should be - he looks like he was one crashout away from physically dragging his friends to the table and barricading the basement door until they finished a proper campaign. He calls Mike out on his bullshit. He's not shy about discussing his experience with the Mind Flayer and what it taught him. He's the one who grabs the heavy-duty chains to lock up Billy and he's the one who cranks up the heat on him, knowing full well what it felt like to be on the other end. Will is intelligent, tactical, and so incredibly, indomitably brave.
Don't forget that this is also the kid who had the guts to stand his ground against an eldrich horror the size of a small mountain at the age of fucking thirteen. Don't forget that he fought tooth and nail with this thing to regain enough control to communicate with the outside world, so he could save the people he loved. Will Byers is a force to be reckoned with, and that's!! so important!! to me!!!! Fuck!!!
