This one is inspired by John Keats’ poem of the same name, as many others. So here is a fragment:
“This phrase—and the poem’s title—is from Alain Chartier’s courtly French ballad, “La Belle Dame sans Merci” (1424). Keats wrote the poem in a letter to George and Georgiana Keats, April 21, 1819”

Bristol Museum and art Gallery (Bristol, United Kingdom)
This is my favorite painting of the many inspired by John Keats’ poem of the same name. The lady is depicted as femme fatale and the knight keeps lamenting because she betrayed him, i don’t know, I think she stole his horse, good for her.

John Milton (1608-1674)
Many artist were inspired by John Milton's epic poem Paradise Lost. Cabanel displays Lucifer, a fallen angel, who is still beuatiful but his expression shows hate, rage and pain. His pride has been hurt but he is not looking for forgiveness: “Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven”
