Just hours later, I was hospitalized for my pain, which was now accompanied by a fever and a heart rate of 160 BPM. I was confused and disoriented, and every blood test pointed towards high levels of inflammation. The doctors, in their report, attributed my symptoms to sepsis.

That wasn't my first time experiencing transphobia in American healthcare hell, but it is by far the most obvious example. My doctor didn't care that I was in pain. She only cared that I, a nonbinary teenager with an F on their birth certificate, didn't meet her expectations of femininity.

The US Government is currently trying to pass an incredibly dangerous national law for trans youth called HR 2616.

This bill would ban all Federally funded schools from teaching about gender identity or sexual orientation, prevent teachers from using the correct pronouns and names for trans students, remove books with any trans representation in them, and even go as far as to prevent teachers from acknowledging trans identity AT ALL.

Any school that does not follow this will lose all federal funding. This bill would also require teachers to forcibly out trans students to their families, which would be fatal to any trans student with a transphobic Family or just hateful family in general. Trans people are already a group that already has some of the highest rates of being victim to suicide, domestic violence, and sexual assault.

This bill actively makes teachers put those innocent children at such a big risk. This bill has rapidly passed the house this week with support from all 209 republicans, as well as 8 democrats. But, it's still being voted on in the senate, which means there is still time to help stop this.

To help stop this, you can visit 5calls.org (look up 2616 in the search bar), one of the most top issues filed Oppose Attacks on LGBTQ+ Students. Once you put in your general location, it will pull-up contact information for your senator, and give you a script for calling them.

If you are a minor and/or do not feel comfortable doing this, PLEASE repost this on here, or any other platform you are on/can find! This needs to be heard and fought against.

The 13th annual international gender census, collecting information about the language we use to refer to ourselves and each other, is now open until 13th August 2026.

It’s short and easy, for most participants it takes 5 minutes or less.

After the survey is closed I’ll process the results and publish a spreadsheet of the data and a report summarising the main findings. Then anyone can use them for academic or business purposes, self-advocacy, tracking the popularity of language over time, and just feeling like we’re part of a huge and diverse community.

sometimes we're standing under harsh, cold light. I, the scientist in my crisp white lab coat, and him banging fiercely on the glass between us. I try to remind him, with the best sympathy I can afford, that the barrier is there to keep him safe just as much as it is for me. he scoffs and gives me arguments which I cannot truly refute. we stop talking and I stare only at my clipboard for the rest of the day.

sometimes I let him in the driver's seat of the golf cart. it can't go very fast, and with me sat in the passenger's seat right next to him, I can always push him out in a hurry if I need to, an inevitably we've long learned to expect. he gets hurt from the fall, always, but we carry a first-aid in the back and I've grown adept at attending to his scrapes and bruises.

sometimes I'm out and about and he's on my back, and he's the heaviest thing on earth. he leans over my shoulder and whispers in my ear as I chat with others, distracting me. he puts a hand up to hide himself from them, and like a spell, it works. nobody ever notices him, even as my spine twists and bends, even as my eyes drift to him whilst mid-conversation with others and I utter urgent responses. I've gotten good at jumping back into conversations without betraying the one I've had with my burden.

It's about desexualizing breasts and "female presenting nipples" and not being criminalized for our bodies if we want to go topless because it's a million damn degrees out. This was a popular growing movement that was still widely known a decade ago!

I live on a family farm cooperative. I grew up with tales of my grandparents living the nudist live in the Sixties. Of my father being shocked when he first came to the farm and saw how everyone didn't care about nudity and toplessness.

I grew up running around as a naked little kid. Nobody cared. As it should be. I grew up swimming on a clothing optional beach. I grew up seeing my mom and grandmother and later aunt work topless in the garden just like the men in the family.

Last summer, it was hot. And, as I occasionally do when it's hot, I went topless one day.

Not a week later, my aunt - no, not the topless one, a different one - called a family meeting where she said that she didn't think it was appropriate to keep allowing the type of nudity that was the norm. I asked for clarification. She said she'd like nobody to go topless. I asked if she meant nobody, or just the women.

She said just the women.

Except she didn't mean just the women.

She meant just me.

An important thing to know: I'm the only person in the family with breasts bigger than a B cup. Most of the women I'm related to are heroin-chic skinny and very small chested. I'm curvy with 38G breasts.

I don't think it was a coincidence that someone who never had a problem with middle aged, flat-chested women going topless suddenly started having an issue when I, as a young, uncomfortably big-chested female person, did the same.

And that still pisses me off a year later.
