this is the laroche family - joseph and his two daughters, simone and louise, and his french wife, juliette lafargue. he and his daughters were the only three passengers of known haitian descent onboard the ship, and they were headed to haiti when the titanic sank. joseph woke his pregnant wife shortly after the impact with the iceberg and ensured his family made it onto a lifeboat, but unfortunately didn't survive, himself. his younger daughter, louise, was one of the last surviving passengers of the titanic (only 6 remaining after her); she died in 1998. one thing i found particularly heartbreaking: joseph's mother had booked them first-class tickets aboard the ss france, but that ship had a rule that children had to remain in the nursery and couldn't dine with their parents, so they chose instead to sail as second-class passengers aboard the titanic.
