Huge shout to my friend from an undergraduate philosophy program who started working out every single day, not for health benefits or to become conventionally attractive or whatever, but because -- and this is a direct quote -- he was concerned that otherwise he might "become lost in the world of signs and forget the things they signify". I have thought about this every single time that I've worked out since.
Your 20s are not about getting your life together they're about learning to escape the self imposed torture labyrinth you've built inside your own head
i’m glad that this can work for some people but (no hate to her at all, she makes it clear this video is by large aimed at people who worked corporate & thus had some sort of saveable income before pursuing other paths) it remains so devastating and sad to me that this is pretty unreachable. i’m in debt, i have almost exactly one month’s cushion in savings (it always takes me 2-4 months to get a job, no matter how many i apply to), and there’s just no way this is a viable path for my poor temp custodian ass. i’m too unmarketable to be a digital nomad or influencer anyway (neither of which i want to be, but like, the illusion of options), and have no “higher education” or money to get one, and with how much work i do & burnout i experience, i have no significant, industry-changing passion projects to supplement the edu. how is this even a little bit viable if you have debt, bills, and low wages that prevent cushion savings for quitting?

All USAmerican citizens benefit from imperialism and if you think your minority is exempt you’re a chauvinist. Every USAmeicans no matter how marginalized and systemically impoverished they are still benefit from an economy that build off the suffering of the imperial periphery. The basic infrastructure is build off the exploitation of the imperial periphery, every commodity sold is based of the exploitation of the imperial periphery. It is so fundamentally baked into American society that simply by existing in this land you are given major benefits that most of the world is simply not afforded. There is a reason so many refugees across the world seek refuge in America, it’s not because of grand ideas like freedom or equality or any other nonsense pushed by American mythos, it’s because simply existing here gives incredible material benefit. If you do not understand this you are a chauvinist.
Who exactly did you write this for? Do you mean to say you’re sitting here in Trump America fuckery PT 2 telling a bunch of people of color that they are one with the machine? Do understand your talking to the people who actually built America and whose blood and bones cement the greater evils of this empire? You’re really going to tell the defendants of people who were enslaved and treated as property and their children and their children too. People who had no where else to go when their freedom was assured mostly to break support for the confederacy. That spend the last century barely getting to a second class citizenship to this day. How dare they benefit from the blood of their own people? Which actually really meant the machine oppressing them. They didn’t ask to be here and they’ve spent generations since getting freedom trying to find a place people won’t lynch them at will. I grew up in the south, black people here didn’t benefit like white people neither do they up here in the north. Here you are saying this shit while indigenous people are terrorfied to leave the US because border patrol or customs might not let them back into the US because they look “mexican” to them and refuse to recognize tribal iDs as valid. People who walk down streets naked after the men that butchered their culture and court houses named after the evil men that mastermind their removal and betrayal of treaties. People that are lucky if they’re allowed in the white towns and cities with those street names because some places you still disappear for being native. You’re going to tell them this shit? Peopke who’s grandparents and great grandparents were stolen off to schools were white people tortured them if they acted like themselves or spoke their own language. You need to get a whole hell of a lot clearer if you’re talking about white people with some marginalized status. There’s so many people that suffered no matter which President was in charge but under Trump people are starting to lynch people again openly, lots of places they were still lynching people quiet like. You’re sitting here all pendantic as these people are being lined up for the slaughter or some ducked up enslavement or both. “Now remember you benefited…” mother fucker these people are in real danger right now. Been in danger and they don’t need some asshole spitting on them right before they get dragged behind some redneck’s truck. That happened where I grew up 20-30 years ago in the 90s. They dragged that black dude until his head got sliced off when it hit something on the side of the road. They never stopped some poor black kid in the early 2000s around 2010 got the shit kicked out of him found dead rolled up in gym mats at school. Local white authorities said it was obviously an accident. I saw the images his face was unrecognizable. Sure maybe that kid had a cheaper set of sneakers and his family got cheaper prices on food but don’t you tell minorities here they’re anything like white people here. Have you ever had a man in his sixties call you boss when you’re not even ten? Have you experienced full grown elders deferred to you just because of racism? These people ain’t living it up like the majority here. Open a damn history book before you try to group them in with the white people here. I get it you hate Americans. Who can blame you but learn the damn difference from a rich person of color and the vast majority of them here. By the way no one here will understand chauvinism correctly so just say nationalism or jingoism.
Every single brick of the building you live in is soaked with blood, every brick in the building you go to work in too. Your bed is soaked in blood, your clothes are soaked in blood, every tool you used every place you go every single thing you do you use with items soaked in the blood of people in the imperial periphery.
Try and conceptualize that for me, just how much in your life is made in developing countries, just how much blood the very daily items you need to function as a human being are soaked in.
Who am I writing this for? People who can’t see the blood. People who don’t recognize the privilege they have just by existing here. It’s an economic fact of life, every person who lives in America must contend with it.
Check your privilege.
i don’t quite know what i want outside of the death of neoliberalism. everything which angers me can be found within it
lately i’ve been getting angrier
really don’t get the whole “worship me” thing from any angle when they’re wearing plastic…. mass-produced synthetic fabrics… mass-produced synthetic prints and plastic costume jewelry… fake, plastic, flowers… i’m not praising a shein ren-faire line or a hot topic ad.
what happened to patient antiquing and thrifting and crafting yourself or saving up for months or longer to patron an artist once or twice a year? you expect me to believe you reached majesty in a month, with most of the delay due to the postal service? you expect me to believe an ethereal god is gonna be dawned in plastic imitation leather?
sometimes i really do hate fun. also, i mean, who says a deity needs to be clothed at all?

The fastest way to accomplish The Project is to cease being afraid of The Project. The Project cannot maim you. The Project cannot kill you. The Project is more afraid of you than you are of it. It is okay if The Project turns out differently from how it was in your head, and it is okay if it has flaws. You are capable of engaging with The Project.
The video is actually about how all of those things don't equate to a sense of self. She talks about how this "list of traits" often backed by corporations is a trap to further remove yourself from discovering any actual deeper meaning and feelings, when Myers Briggs could do the work for you.
Then, every one of us rebloging this without having watched the video fell into the misogynistic trap of seeing a screenshot of a woman talking about how she feels and decided she's full of herself.
I quote this and laugh to myself very, very often.
additionally, i want to try my hand at the sport of listening to an ambient album and keeping a vibrator near by. ambient and drone and co are so sensual

i’ve been thinking about kissing clean feet a lot lately. i’m so shy about it but they’re so smooth and nice
WHEN THE MODERN FRAMEWORK OF GENDER, SEX, AND SEXUALITY WAS LITERALLY BORN OUT OF 19TH CENTURY RACE SCIENCE YOU CANNOT DISCUSS FEMINISM OF ANY KIND WITHOUT HAVING TO FIRST DISCUSS THE RACIALIZATION OF GENDER ASSIGNMENT/PERCEPTION
like i cannot stress enough that when "man" and "woman" got codified "scientifically" in the 1800s as intrinsically seperate categories within western society THEY EXPLICITLY STATED BLACK AND BROWN PEOPLE WERE TOO PRIMITIVE TO DEVELOP THIS DISTINCTION. WE WERE QUITE LITERALLY SEEN AS A THIRD UNDIFFERENTIATED CATEGORY BELOW (WHITE) MEN AND WOMEN.
Like you CANNOT divorce gender as a construct from race as it was literally born out of the social construct of race. Black/Brown Trans Woman and White Trans Woman are, for all intents and purposes, discrete gender identities historically speaking. And the worst part is that this way that both Black/Brown women of ANY gender have had to fight to be recognized as people - much less women - should be a point of solidarity between white trans women and black/brown women. but every time we try to have this discussion it turns into a fucking flamewar bc of white fragility
South American Feminist Maria Lugones discusses this in The Coloniality of Gender.
