Vulcan translations of LGBTQQIP2SA and related terms
So, I've been away for a good long while, but I'm getting back in to Vulcan and thought this might be interesting. So I translated the above acronym. If you know a correct translation, know a better translation, want to request a missing identity, or see a problem with any of mine (including, like, problematic language in this post, I obviously am not a member of all of these groups), please feel free to message me or reblog with your adjustments! I used the Vulcan Language Dictionary for this, and each term is followed by an explanation of the way I constructed the word. One challenge is that there doesn't seem to be a word for "sexuality" so please do let me know if you've come across it!
Lesbian -> ko-ka-ashausu -> direct from the VLD, it means a lesbian
Gay -> sa-ka-ashausu -> direct from the VLD, it means a gay man
Bisexual -> dah-guv'es -> direct from the VLD, but it's also a biological term, so consider -> dah-ka-ashausu -> the prefix "dah-" meaning two parts and "ka-ashausu" just being pulled from the words for lesbian and gay
Transgender -> mesakh-guv-sha'es -> the prefix "mesakh-" meaning "trans" and guv-sha'es meaning "gender identity" -> another option would be "mesakh-guv" because "guv" can be used to mean either gender or sex
Questioning -> there are a lot of options here! I have listed some words below, I recommend combining them with "guv" or "guv-sha'es" or "skamaya" which means "attraction"
deshkau "question" (noun)
deshker "question" (noun)
linisau "examine"
ni'droi "ask"
ya'akash "ask"
panah-tor "consider"
panahik "considering"
Queer -> this one is complicated because of the English word's history, so I think the closest may be "tekerik" for "deviant" -> if you wanted something less burdensome, consider "natya" for "different" (this can also be used as a prefix, so, for instance, "natya-guv" could mean "different gender" or "natya-skamaya" could mean "different attraction")
Intersex -> tvi-guv -> the prefix "tvi-" meaning "inter" and "guv" meaning either sex or gender (there is a VLD word for hermaphrodite, which is "on-kuvsu" but given that this is an outdated term in English, I don't recommend this and include it here only in the interest of completeness)
Pansexual -> ek'ka-ashausu -> the prefix "ek' " meaning all and "ka-ashausu" just being pulled from the words for lesbian and gay
Two-spirit -> dahkuh katra -> "dahkuh" meaning two and "katra" meaning spirit or soul -> another option is "dah-katra" with the prefix "dah-" meaning two -> "tam'a" apparently also means spirit, but based on the use of "katra" in the series (Star Trek III: The Search for Spock) I would think "katra" is preferable
Asexual -> riguvik -> direct from the VLD (also my username, a holdover from a different era), but it's also a biological term, so consider -> riguv-ka-ashausu -> the prefix "riguv-" meaning asexual and "ka-ashausu" just being pulled from the words for lesbian and gay
Bonus words
Agender -> tehn-guv-sha'es -> the prefix "tehn-" meaning "anti" and guv-sha'es meaning "gender identity" -> another option would be "tehn-guv" because "guv" can be used to mean either gender or sex
Ally -> puk'ai'la -> direct from the VLD
Gender fluid -> guv-yumaya -> "guv" meaning either gender or sex and "yumaya" meaning "flow" -> yumau-guv-sha'es is another option, with the prefix "yumau-" meaning "flow" and guv-sha'es meaning "gender identity" -> guv-yumasu'es is another option, with "guv" meaning either gender or sex and "yumasu'es" meaning fluidity (note that the word "yumasu" translates as a noun meaning "fluid" or "liquid" so "flow" seemed to fit here better)
Hormones -> guv-dau-tukh -> direct from the VLD, specific to sex-related hormones
Individual person -> wuhsu -> direct from the VLD
Man -> sasu -> direct from the VLD, also "satik" and "sa" both mean "male" and "sa-" is a prefix that means "male"
Nonbinary -> tehn-dahik -> the prefix "tehn-" meaning "anti" and dahik meaning "binary" -> another option would be "tehn-dah-krusik" because "dah-krusik" apparently also means "binary"
Woman -> kosu -> direct from the VLD, also "ko-" is a prefix that means "female"

can't wait til i get vaccinated so i can go to goodwill and replace my entire wardrobe with only things that a gay magician or deeply amoral bartender aboard a space station (also gay) would wear
women write men with so much nuance and care and more dimension than most men in real life will ever have and men write women like theyāve never spoken to a woman in their entire lifeĀ

so women are supposed to grin and bear the books, the comics, the movies, the plays, the tv shows, the stories, the sci-fi, the translated ancient poems, the fucking millennia of men writing about their self inserts torturing women and it being declared as High Art by other men, weāre supposed to read it in our free time, study it in classrooms, include their styles in our own writing, accept their cultural influence as natural, watch it in the cinema, write about it, talk about it, accept it, aspire it, but men canāt tolerate three seconds of female wish fulfilment of a woman snapping the wrist of a creep without feeling personally kicked in the balls.
This reminds me of something I observed in college while I was doing my honors thesis on women in modern horror films. I watched a LOT of horror during that time as part of my research, and sometimes that was done with my family around.
And my dad and brothers? Were deeply disturbed by the movie Jenniferās Body. I was flabbergasted. Itās not scary! Itās not even that gory. But they were horrified by it. These men who grew up on 70s slashers were legitimately shook by 90 minutes of Megan Fox eating a few teenage boys, mostly off-screen.
Similarly, my all-male reading panel for my thesis? Were so disturbed by my synopsis of the film Teeth that they couldnāt even talk about it. One of them said he couldnāt look at his wife for a week after reading it.
Again, grown-ass men who study and teach media for a living. Who definitely watch and enjoy horror movies. One of whom was a huge Tarantino buff. We watched and read worse in his intro to mass media class! But one movie about a girl whose vag could bite was enough to haunt him.
Then of course you have things like the Gone Girl backlashāmen yelling that Amy Dunne is evil and women clamoring to assure everyone that they know she is not someone to emulateāthe backlash against Carol Danvers, and, more recently, the griping from MRAs against the upcoming film Hustlers, which is about strippers scamming their Wall Street clients.
My conclusion? Most menāat least most straight, cisgender men, who are both my sample population and most of the ones whining that Carol is a āvillaināāare perfectly fine with, and desensitized to, media where men do violence to women (horror movies), or men do violence to men (horror and action movies). Theyāre even sort of fine when women do violence to women (āooooo cat fight!ā).
But they get intensely uncomfortable when women are depicted doing any kind of violence to men, especially in films that tilt the balance of power to the other side of the m/f gender binary beyond a single moment or scene.
So woman as flesh-eating monster with men as her preferred cuisine? Woman who responds to unwanted sexual contact by biting it off? Woman who frames her cheating husband for murder? Woman whose response to harassmentābehavior that many of the loudest whiners know is both creepy and reflective of their own thoughts/actionsāis to break something?
Too scary. Unacceptable. Disturbing. These men hate being presented with the idea, even in fiction, that their position of power is socially constructed, that it could easily be flipped the other way. It terrifies them.
In feeling that terror, they experience a tiny modicum of what living, existing, moving, being perceived as a woman in the world is like.

White men trying to get clout for saying they hate white women on Twitter is driving me insane sir we have seen the domestic violence statistics we know you feel that way
you need to sit back and analyze just how privileged you are if you get to say "i dont want to talk about or look at what's happening right now. i dont want this negativity." poc, especially black people, cant just decide that like others can. they can't just close their eyes and ignore posts and be comfortable and sheltered. theyre forced into this situation. theyre the ones experiencing the murders, the abuse, the racism, that youre so damn privileged to be able to just click away from. silence is violence in it's own way. use your voice to uplift the downtrodden instead of pretending it's not happening just outside of your picket fences.
