Isn’t that just practicing avoidance? 🤔 if you’re a therapist it’s your job to help us learn how to not have to avoid anymore lmfao.

My therapist’s refrain is “avoiding avoidable suffering”. Husbandthing and I lie like rugs when we need to and our mental health is so much better for it.

For reals- avoidance can have its problems of course-  but frankly I’ll take a good dose of avoidance over ‘subjecting yourself to high levels of stress with toxic relatives.’ Just because you’re related does not mean you owe them a moment of your time. It’s one thing if they are loving kind wonderful people who you genuinely need to make time for- but mean spirited people who have hurt you, hate your identity, or are bigots of any sort? Yeah, you don’t owe them your time. Have a friendsgiving. Spend your time with nice people who enrich your life.
