Famous people who are actually not famous

Probably you are familiar with eBay, because it is the most popular webshop in the earth, so today I want to introduce you the person, who made this company succesful. Her name is Margareth Whitman and she joined to eBay in 1998. Back then, it had only 30 workers and its profit was about 4 million dollars which seems to be fairly neat, but if we look at these numbers 10 years later, the change is conspicuous. In 2008 eBay had over 15000 workers and the profit was about 8 billion dollars. This is mostly Whitman’s merit, and she got a lot of Attention from other businessmen, mostly because she was a woman and it was pretty impressive that she could take over the men’s authority in the company. She even took part in politics with a bit waving success. Her main aims were to make workplaces for unemplyed people, to reduce the government’s outgo, and to reform the former K-12 education system. I think she could be a great example for everyone that you should help yourself in order to be able to help others, because she financed her political campaigns by herself and fought for the youth’s future.

Most people can tell who invented the light bulb, or the telephone, but how many could name the inventor of the television? Television is one of the most impactful, and influemtial inventions in the past century, and it seems really strange that mos people don’t know, who invented it. Well, his name is Philo Fransworth, who demonstrated first a crude, but working thing what was called an “image dissector” in 1927 at the age of 21. This image was first hust a straight line, but by 1929 he managed to transmit a blurry image of his wife onto a three inch surface. The reason you probably never heard about him is because he passed on an offer made by Westinghouse and bought his parents out and worked for them, preferring instead to create his own company. Being unable to compete with his much larger rival, he reamined a wondorus, yet insignificant inventor up to his death in 1971.

The enigma code and who cracked it, Alana Turing is probably familiar to you, but who has invented it? Well, lets just talk about the enigma code in general for those of you, who don’t know about it that much. It was used by the germans in the second Wolrd War, and it functioned as a communicating system, which the enemy couldn’t understand. It was designed by a german engineer, Arthur Scherbius.He was an electrical engineer who patented an invention for a mechanical chipher machine, later sold as the Enigma machine. It was top secret at the time, and no one was allowed to know. It was a very tricky code, mainly because it changed every day, so even if the enemy could solve the message, it was too late, and the next was also the same challenge for them. Scherbius was also responsible for starting the world war, because he helped to plan it.

William Salice had to be a well known person, but probably only among those people who were born before 2000, because at those times was the kinder surprise so popular, that this man created. Unfortunately he died three days before 2017, so I’ll provide a little summary about him. He was born in Italy in 1933, and he began working at Ferrero in 1960 and he became a close collaborator of the company’s head, Michele Ferrero. Salice tried to think about an alternative usage of the unused easter eggs by the company. Due to this he insisted to be Michele Ferrero the inventor, saying he is the “material executor”. Kinder eggs were released on the market in 1974 and was a big success. Salice also played an important role in creating other Ferrero products such as Ferrero Rocher, Pocker Coffee. In 2007 he retired, and after this he co-founded the Color Your Life Foundation, which provides free courses for young aspiring entrepreneurs.

Most of the people think that Thomas Edison is the most profilic inventor in history, but you would be surprised if I would say that he is far surpassed for that honor by a man who is still inveting today. The Australian inventor, Kia Silverbrook started his first company when he was 19 years old in 1977 and since then he has invented a lot of useful devices, which you use in your everyday life. He currently has about 4600 patents to his name, and almost 10.000 total patent or patent applications registered int he internatioanal patent document databse. So you would ask, what has he invented? Just to mention a few: He has made numerous inventions ont he field of computer graphics, digital printing, liquid crystal displays, 3D printing, DNA analysis, solar photovoltaics, image processing, nanotechnology, cryptography. It is true however that his invention were not as conspicuous as Edison’s, but all of them were needed in creating the high tech revolution that we all depend on today, and this is what makes him the most obscure influential person in the world

Today's guest will be one of my personal favourite, because his name is not famous, but many people could be thankful for him. His name is Ma Huateng (also known as Pony Ma) and he is a chinese internet entrepreneur. This man is the founder , president, chief executive officer and executive board member of the well known Tencent Inc. Well, well known in China. This  company is very complex, it has a lot of sides, but it is certain that this is one of the biggest internet company worldwide. It's subsidiaries provide media, entertainment, mobile apps (WeChat, Tencent QQ),  and also operate advertising services in China (QQ.com, JD.com). However, it is world famous duue to it's gaming company. Tencent has aquired, and owns the Riot Games which is an american game developer and e-sports organizer company, this company is the founder of the well known online game, League of Legends. But jumping back to Ma, he was not satisfied with all he did but wanted to show the people his artistic side too. So he started to draw his own anime film, based on League of Legends. It is about a young boy who is a non-stop gamer but falls in love so he has to decide whether love is more important, or gaming.

Today’s subject is going to be a special man with real generous spirit. His name is Jan Koum and he is a ukrainian internet inventor. His biggest company was a mobile application, called WhatsApp, which is probably familiar to you. It is a messaging app that you can use for sending messages free for your friends, but it requires internet connection.  It was acquired by Facebook in 2014 for US$19 billion. In 2014 he was among the 400 richest people in the world. He is a really good friend with the CEO of Facebook Inc., Mark Zuckerberg, and that’s why they decided to join the Facebook board. So now we are sure that he is a successful man, but why is he so worth talking about? Well, in 2014 he decided to share some of his money with the people in need, so he donated 1 million dollars to The FreeBSD Foundation. It support the FreeBSD Project which is a free, open source Unix-like operating system. He also donated $556 million to the Silicon Valley Community Foundation. For those who don’t know what this is, it is a donor-advised community that serves the Silicon Valley. That’s a brief summary about him, I hope you like it.

Ferenc  Kölcsey is definitely a familiar name to everyone, because he wrote the national anthem for our country. I bet however that you didn’t know about Ferenc Debály whom not one but two country is thankful for composing their national anthems. These two countries are Paraguay and Uruguay, and his name is still well known among the people who live there. There is even a street  in the capital city of Uruguay which has his name. Debály was born back in the end of the 18th century, but he only got famous in the 19th century. He moved to South-America in 1838 with his italian wife, even when they were not allowed to enter Brazil because there was an epidemic. Eventually they ended u pin Montevideo, Uruguay and he easily got a job in an orchestra called Caja de Comedia, due to his serious amount of knowledge and skills. At that time a civil war broke out, and Debály took part in it as a volunteer. After one of the biggest combat he wrote an opus called Himno de Cagancha, which made him famous in the entire country. Despite of that he was asked to compose a music to the national anthem. In this time he got a really good friend, namely Guiseppe Garibaldi, who is probably familiar to you, because he was the one who returned to Italy with his army in 1848 and created the unified Italy, as a state. After his death, in 1859 he left behind 143 compositions, which is a massive amount if you think about it. Briefly that is about him, thank you for reading!

Hi everyone,  Welcome to my blog. This is a school project, and I'll update it once a week. Here I want to introduce you some people who aren't really well known, but they absolutely should be. They did much more in favor of science and society. The first man who I want to draw your attention on is called Elon Musk. He is a South African businessman , inventor, investor, and engineer. His first company was Zip2, which was an Internet "City guide". It was worth over 300 Million dollars when they sold it. Then he made a new web-based company which you are likely familiar with. It is the PayPal, altough it was named X.com first. For you who don't know what PayPal is, here's a brief explanation: this is basically a web based payment method, so you can transfer money online. In 2002 eBay acquired it for 1.5 billion $. His next project was pretty unsual, it was the SpaceX project. It is about landing a tiny greenhouse on the Mars. It contained food crpos, and they tries to grow them on the Mars' earth. However his biggest thing he had done for the society was the Tesla Motors Inc. This company builds and sells electric car powertrain components to other automakers so they can build electrical cars, which reduces the carbon emissions, and therefore saves the environment.
