PokΓ©mon Winds/Waves Starter Discussion
I'm going full PokΓ©mon Winds & Waves 'What If' here and no one's going to stop me!!!
So since the reveal of PokΓ©mon Winds & Waves on 27t February 2026, more specifically their three new starters, my mind has been going wild with speculations of what we can expect from their final evos.
Some have already mentioned some possibilities for typing's for them. Gecqua being Water/Poison or Water/Psychic. Pombon has people PRAYING to whatever deity they believe in for Fire/Fairy since that type hasn't been used yet. Browt has had less but I've seen more Grass/Flying, Grass/Fighting and even Grass/Dragon (the idea of a Chicken turning into a Dragon is honestly both hysterical and amazing at the same time)
But I will swoop in with an unpredictable type combo that could be utilized. And with the extra additions for each PokΓ©mon stat and ability wise, I think this makes the most sense. So here it is: Browt - Grass/Rock. Pombon - Fire/Ground. Gecqua - Water/Ice. The theme here is another unutilized triangle type combo: Rock<Ground<Ice You could also look at keeping Gecqua Ice/Ice and swapping the secondary types of Browt (Grass/Ground) and Pombon (Fire/Rock). And theme wise that MAY work better since Chickens are more in tune with the earth/ground than rocks, and dogs, at least a majority of the ones I've been around, tend to bite anything they can get their maws on, rocks being a heavy one when I was younger. But I will stick with the other as I have specific plans.
So the main down side to either for Pombon is that Gecqua will be double effective against it with Water. But it will be arguably worse with my picks since Gecqua will be double effective against BOTH other starters, since Water is 4 times to Fire/Rock AND Ground, and Ice is 4 times to Grass/Ground. So why should I pick these type combos and how can they be saved? With the PokΓ©mon's Stats and hidden abilities.
Stat wise I'll start with Gecqua since I see them being a glass (or ICE) cannon pokemon. Special Attack>Physical Attack>Speed>HP>Physical Defense>Special Defense, though Phys Attack & Speed can be fairly close to each other since it would be more Special Attack focused.
Pombon's final would be Speed>Physical Attack>HP>Special Attack>Special Defense>Physical Defense, thought Speed & Physical Attack can be fairly close honestly. Being a dog it would be more speedy and rely on my physical attack over special since it needs to be more opposite to Gecqua being the highest Special Attack.
And Browt would be HP>Special Defense>Physical Defense>Physical Attack>Special Attack>Speed. Both defenses can be fairly close honestly.
I'd also want to focus on the strengths being the biggest weaknesses for both Pombon and Gecqua, which is why Physical & Special are theirs respectively. It will make more sense as we go onto to abilities soon. Browt having Speed as its weakest is mainly due to the idea of a wall/immovable object not really being the fastest. Gecqua also NEEDS to have the lowest HP out of the three so it can stick to the glass cannon theme.
We will also look at these options and show why I've picked Fire/Ground & Grass/Rock over the other two options. With Fire/Rock, while it would have 7 resistances, it would have 4 weaknesses, two of those being 4 times to types being used in the trio: Water, and Ground. With Fire/Ground, it would still have 5 resistances (the most out of anyone in this scenario), it would only have one 4 times weakness with Water. Grass/Ground would also be similar to Fire/Rock, as while both Grass combos have the same amount of weaknesses and resistances, Grass/Ground is worse off as it is regular weak to Fire AND Double weak to Ice. So in this scenario, both would be overpowered by Gecqua's final evo. Though Browt's Grass/Rock evo is better a even though it loses it's Fire type weakness, it is still regular weak to Ice, so there'd be at least one super effective there. And with Gecqua's Water/Ice combo, it would basically lose it's Fire weakness with Ice, turning that into regular damage, but it would still keep it's Grass and Rock weaknesses, so regular effective to both of Browt's types and nothing to Pombon.
Now another big factor to consssider for these types and stats comes the abilities, or rather, their hidden abilities. As it is shown type wise, Pombom would be the worst off since it would be double effective to both Water AND Ground. So what hidden abilities could work best for this? The ones I thought it would be Solid Rock (reduces damage from supereffective moves by 25) as that helps both type scenarios. But there are two other considerations here: Earth Eater (when hit by a Ground-type move, its HP is restored by one quarter of its maximum HP, and the move will have no effect on that PokΓ©mon, even if it already has full HP). Or a less themeing option and possibly more OP for Pombon: Storm Drain. But that ability would make Pombon work too well, to an unfair degree, especially competitively. Since that ability absorbs all water attacks to that Pokemon and makes the Pokemon immune to water. AND if Pombon's final if is a Special Attacker (I already made it more Speed & Physical Attack, but there's no stopping a Special Attack babo) it would be doubly bad to fight against since it also increases their Special Attack. So to summarize, Solid Rock, Earth Eater or Storm Drain would be Pombon's final evo's best Hidden Ability.
Browt could also have Solid Rock as a Hidden Ability if Pombon has one of the others I mentioned. But there are two options depending on if it's Grass/Ground or Grass/Rock. If it's Grass/Rock, Well-Baked Body works since that basically makes PokΓ©mon with it immune to Fire Type moves while also raising their defense by two stages. But much like Pombon with Storm Drain, it may work too well since that would neutralize one of it's main weaknesses in Fire while giving an already Defense heavy Pokemon EVER MORE defense. But an even better one for either, ESPECIALLY Grass/Ground, would be Thick Fat, since that reduces the power of, what moves? Fire and Ice. The two main weaknesses to Browt's Grass/Ground final evo from BOTH starters. And an overall weakness decrease for 2 time damage for Grass/Rock. So to summarise, Browt's best Hidden Ability options would be Solid Rock, Thick Fat or Well-Baked Body
Gecqua's Water/Ice final evo's ability needs to be close enough to all of what I have chosen and it aligning with their stats. So with all of that, I believe it's best ability would be Ice Scales (only ever used as a hidden ability of the Snom line), since that halves damage from special moves that hit PokΓ©mon with the ability. So since Gecqua's stats show it's special defense as it's weakest, focus on keeping that in check, especially since Grass and Electric tend to favor more on the special attack side.
So this has been a whole lot of theorizing for something I doubt will actually come to pass. But if any of this remotely happens, then someone from Game Freak may have caught (PokΓ©mon) 'wind(s)' of my blog and done this. Or I have a serious fortune on my side and I NEED to buy Lottery tickets when the final evo types, stats & hidden abilities are revealed.
