I have been asked by my sister to help her good friends place Aeris, who is a 16-month-old, 50-pound Lab mix, and a very sweet girl. She is in Columbia, Missouri.

Before anything else, I need to be completely honest about why she is being rehomed.

During play, Aeris accidentally caused a fatal injury to the couple's younger puppy. This was a tragic accident between a larger, energetic adolescent dog and a much smaller puppy. Aeris has never shown any aggression towards any dog, and never showed aggression towards the puppy. They got along. However, the outcome cannot be ignored, and because of that, the shelter that originally adopted her out, and the local SPCA, have declined her. She will have to be rehomed privately.

Please understand that the decision to rehome has been heartbreaking for everyone involved. This choice is being made out of concern for Aeris above anything else, and for the people caring for her, who are deeply grieving. We are trying to find her a responsible placement and give her the best outcome possible.

About Aeris:

• Loves car rides

• Extremely affectionate and attention-seeking

• Thinks she's a lap dog

• Equal parts energetic runner and couch companion

• Enjoys other dogs and has done well at dog parks

• Can be anxious and thrives with regular interaction and attention

• Still has some puppy manners and will jump up on people and lick faces

• Only partially leash trained and can be nervous on walks

Aeris enjoga strong, physical play. She is rough on toys and can be unaware of her own size and strength. Because of that, she should not be placed in homes with cats, small animals, or very young/small dogs.

She would likely do best with experienced people who understand large, energetic young dogs and can provide training, exercise, and plenty of attention. The owners are also willing to place her as a farm dog.

Aeris will come with her crate and supplies.

She is currently located in Columbia, MO., and can also be made available for pickup in Tulsa, OK.

Basil goes in for his FHO surgery on Tuesday, since the dislocated hip he suffered when he was attacked by the loose dog hasn’t stayed in the socket and the toggle pin option for surgery is just too out of budget. His skull has healed really well, which at the time has been my biggest concern. He’s got a permanent dent above the left eye now and a lumpy ear with the scar tissue, but that’s just cosmetic. The stitches are fully dissolved on the healed lacerations to his leg.

I’ll be really glad to get him through this last hurdle of his recovery, the pain management has been keeping him mobile to go in and out for potty breaks, but it’s affected his appetite so his weight has suffered.

Between the initial emergency vet visit after he was attacked, the MRI, and the follow ups, it’s run us about $6500 so far, $1300 of which y’all contributed when I initially asked for help. Thank you so so much for everything <3

Hey y’all, I hate to ask for help like this, but Basil is at the vet after a severe attack from a loose dog during our morning walk.

Right now, the biggest concern is that he almost certainly has a fractured skull. Initial exam upon intake indicates that it appears to be a sinus cavity skull fracture rather than damage to the brain cavity itself, he wasn’t exhibiting neurological symptoms and was able to stand despite being in shock and the wounds on other parts of his body, responsive and mostly alert etc, so it’s possible that we got very, very, VERY lucky, but we will need to take him to a larger veterinary hospital once he’s stabilized here in town, since we’ll need to do a CT to get better imaging and determine if surgery is necessary. The other injuries are all pretty superficial (bruising, lacerations, damage to his ear, etc) in comparison to that.

This level of specialty care is very expensive and will push me past my emergency savings. Basil is one of those once-in-a-lifetime dogs. Within days of him being dropped off as a foster I knew that he was never gonna leave, he just fit in so well with my crew and I fell in love. He is so, so special to me, and I’d do anything for him including ask for help.
