Rey huffed, raising a brow as he looked up at the cabinet where the now precarious dishware lay, then back down at his friend. His hands rested on his hips.
βWell, would you rather I lifted you up myself?β Rey couldnβt help the slight amused smirk on his lips as he imagined it - hoisting Helmut up by his hips to reach the top shelf. He almost wish he had thought of it before the step-stool. βI know you want the nice plates for our βguestsβ, but Iβm sure we can achieve that without a hospital trip for you before they get here.β
Helmut returned that look by lifting an offended brow at the other man. As if the suggestion of using a stepping stool wasnβt enough insult to hisβ¦ average stature, he even had to propose lifting him up like a child. βNo, I do not need help. And I will reiterate: the stepping stool is unnecessary.β Feeling exceptionally stubborn, he let out a haughty breath and went back to reaching up into the kitchen cabinet, blindly feeling for the plates, which only resulted to him pushing them forward and definitely made it harder for him to reach. Damn it.
Rey unsuccessfully bit back a grin as Helmut continued his endeavors. His stubbornness and determination to finish a job himself were admirable traits in the field. But in this case, Rey felt they were simply amusing. It made these otherwise tense moments, awaiting intel that would further their work, much more bearable.
Before his partner made the situation even more difficult for either of them to solve, Rey stepped up, close enough that he rested a hand between Helmut's shoulders to steady him, rather than completely bump him aside. He reached up with his other hand and carefully found the plates, moving them to the edge so he could successfully grab them and bring them down. He set them on the countertop near them, and tried not to beam at Zemo.
"You're right, the stepping stool was unnecessary." He couldn't help the smirk that curved at the corner of his lips, before it relaxed into his more sincere smile. "And I promise not to lift you up unless you ask me to."
