Does anyone ever think about the Swedish Princess that was allegedly supposed to sit near Shane at Wimbledon or are all y'all fully functioning adults capable of compartmentalizing?
Just me? Ok.
I bet she was beautiful and if a pic of the two of them landed online and made Ilya jealous, I would have liked that.
Ilya would subtly ask Shane about the Swedish princess and Shane would say "Yeah, but she doesn't watch hockey." Then that would settle that.
Rose Landry is a Michigan girl that likes hockey. So objectively speaking, Ilya is jealous of her. But the Swedish Princess no longer poses a threat and Ilya never brings it up again.
on the topic of the Swedish princess can we talk about how Shane goes "and talk about what, Swedish politics?" I love him for that. bc the way I'd default to thinking about a princess I thought wasn't worth my time would be along the lines of "ooo shallow and girly and rich and airheaded." Which is implicit sexist bias and probablyhopefully I'd notice and correct myself before I opened my mouth.
But Shane Hollander is better than me and he drinks his fight the patriarchy juice every day with breakfast and he Will see princesses as political entities.
The worst thing about Shane and Ilya being long distance during their hook up era is that Shane didn't see Ilya's stunning airport look and Ilya didn't see Shane's stunning aquarium look with a baby as an accessory.
I hate that for them. Life is cruel.
Actually, I firmly believe there are pics floating around early Twitter about Shane and Hayden (by default, it is technically his baby) shot pap style of Shane carrying the littlest Pike around and getting better at it over the time there
And every single one of those pics ends up in Ilya's phone cropping out Hayden and the other kids. So he can stare at Shane handling a baby and try not to Get Weird About It
They can be in his Boring folder 😭😭😭
35th reblog
I love the idea of Shane's Wikipedia page having a single sentence about him being "previously romantically linked to Rose Landry" under Personal Life with Rose Landry's name hyperlinked and Ilya getting irrationally annoyed by it.
He makes an offhanded comment to Shane about it during dinner one night and Shane says something like "Oh I didn't even know it said that. You can submit a correction and edit it to delete that sentence if you care so much since you're so whiny and jealous" and Ilya is like "I'm not whining, I'm just making boring conversation about boring people on boring website." Then promptly excuses himself and whips his phone out to do the very thing that Shane has just inadvertently taught him.
And Ilya is getting more and more frustrated that it keeps getting edited back to say Shane dated Rose. He can never mention this to Shane because then Shane will know that Ilya is still jealous AND still checking his Wikipedia page.
This goes on for weeks. Wikipedia eventually restricts Ilya. He makes a second account and the same thing happens. He eventually takes the L.
It isn't until like 5 years into marriage that Svetlana drunkenly admits that she's the one that put the Rose Landry fact in Shane's Wikipedia page in the first place and that she edits it back in there every time she notices it's gone.
Shane at 45 years old, watching some punk-ass rookie on screen beat the All Stars speed record that he's held for over a decade now: Baby, do you think I can come out of retirement for next season?

shoutout to the words "overmorrow" and "ereyesterday". english losing these words was stupid. "the day after tomorrow" "the day before yesterday" clunky-ass constructions. revolting. i'm bringing overmorrow and ereyesterday back in my idiolect and there is nothing you can do about it
I know we joke about it all the time but hotel room walls are...GENUINELY very thin. The bit in the HR novel where Shane and Ilya fuck in the shower so that the water drowns out the sounds actually rang as extremely accurate to me. Like, the lack of boundaries that must exist not just for the Centaurs but for ANYBODY who spends a significant amount of time sharing hotel room walls with their teammates is just unbelievable.
Like, on any given roadie the people sharing walls with the Hollanovs can expect to overhear:
- One side of phone calls between Shane and his mother where every third word is FUCK and Shane's voice gets higher the more he works himself up about whatever league drama is pissing him off that week
- Ilya yelling in Russian (Non sex reasons) (He and Svetlana are talking about Matheson in Colorado. Again.)
- Ilya gets hay fever real bad in Seattle and spends an entire night sneezing at EAR SPLITTING volume, each sneeze followed by a, "AHH!" from Shane as he is startled awake. Again.
- The Christmas wish lists of every Pike child and how they're going to be divvy'd up for the year. This conversation takes place in September.
- "I'm telling you, the penalty kill could be a work of fucking art if Haas--oh fuck, right there, don't stop--"
- As stated before, an objectively obnoxious amount of showering is happening. At one point LaPointe turns to Bood and says something to the effect of, "Crazy that Hollander takes TWO showers after every game, I guess he really is superstitious," and Bood just. Chooses not to engage.
- A thunderous and almighty BANG. This is the sound of Ilya's suitcase hitting the floor after it inevitably slides off the bed.
- "Shaaaaane, look at the livestream from the dog hotel--look at how cute! She is so sleepy, she's holding her banana like a baaaaby--"
- Vin Diesel's voice, unimaginably loud, at one AM
- Russian Yelling (Non sex reasons) (Sasha did something stupid)
- "Unh unh unh UNH UNH UNH--" (Squeak. Squeak.)
- Celtics game. Twenty minutes beforehand: "Fuck, Shane, how do I get ESPN on the stupid--Roku stick thing--"
- "Okay, look, your dad played the word veer--is not real word, right? Like, deer with a V? It's real? Shane, we can't let your dad win--no, it's not cheating, he gets Yuna's help--"
- Stuff about Rose Landry's upcoming film that they should probably all sign NDAs for even thinking about.
- Russian Yelling (Sex reasons. Probably. It sounds...ardent.)
- One time, for an entire night, silence. The day immediately preceeding this night and the morning immediately after are best left unspoken about.
- The sound of Shane's fuckass electric toothbrush for WAY too long. Seriously man it cannot be healthy to brush your teeth for that lo--oh. Got it. Okay. Where are my earbuds.
- "I mean, it's not like I'm sixteen anymore, right? It's just that sometimes I think she looks at me and sees a fucking kid still, and I get it, I get it--and fuck, babe, I know it's not fair to feel this way, she's the only mom I'll ever have, and you don't even--ugh--"
- "I'm so terribly sorry the hotel misplaced your bags, Mister Rozanov. If there's any way that we can...make it up to you..." [Giggle. Kissing sound. Kissing sound. Moan.]
- Banging on the wall and, "KEEP IT DOWN, ROOK," the one. Singular. Time. That Holmberg manages to pull on their West Coast roadie. Which may or may not be the beginning of his villain origin story.

I went to a library book sale this weekend and I found a very old book called “Electronic Life: How to Think About Computers,” which was published in I think 1975? I’ve been reading it kind of like how I would read a historical document, and it’s lowkey fascinating
There’s a whole paragraph that’s like “okay, find the keyboard. Don’t panic if it has more keys than a typewriter, that’s normal. Really, it’s fine. The extra keys don’t make things harder. It’s FINE”
Thought this section was particularly interesting:
Can the computer create something? At first glance it seems obvious that it can. Animated computer graphics, with their fluid transitions and whiplash perspectives, look strikingly new. And if one watches the machine doing animation work, there seem to be lengthy periods when the computer is acting “on its own.”
But if one observes these processes in more detail, it becomes clear that creation is not occurring within the machine. First of all, computer graphics are not unique. Computers have yet to generate anything that cannot be done by hand—and usually already has been done. Second, the apparent ability of the computer to “act on its own” is the outcome of thousands of hours of patient human effort to refine its instructions. The computer can manipulate a shape for us if we have already informed it what a shape is, what the rules for shape manipulation are, what this specific shape is, and so forth.
You can start an automobile engine and it will run by itself, too, but that doesn’t mean it’s being creative. It’s just running.
Somebody in 1975 had a better understanding of why artificial intelligence is not in any way “intelligence” than the majority of today’s intellectual minds.
we have to stop moralizing the human condition and start jerking each other off while making out
I have had so many bad takes on this post and not only is this a breath of fresh air, I’m gonna kiss you for it, you get me

Everyone: omg Hollander leash your dog, Ilya is barking at opponent hockey players again
Shane Enabler Hollander: ok so Ilyusha this player has had zero assists in the entire season, he got drafted last, and finally - and this is crucial - he once scored a goal in his own team's net
Ilya Heart Eyes Rozanov: thank you my ShaneWiki this is valuable data, off I go
if ur lgbt+ im curious: if u can remember, what was your first major Gay Ship?
I think stucky?
Selina Beauregard and Clarisse La Rue from Percy Jackson. I might’ve been like, 10 or 11.
solangelo for me but I think some part of me saw selina/clarisse as well? or at least, I see it in retrospect. Also thanks to Madeline Miller I now know that Selina/Clarisse’s scene at the end of The Last Olympian is literally from the myth of Patroclus and Achilles who were also in love so YEAH
ooooh this is interesting!!! i think mine was nick and charlie from heartstopper…? and then emily and sue from dickinson
love those 4!
If THE modern translator of the OG Odyssey text wrote this about my film adaptation I’d kill myself
Emily Wilson you’re goated
There are no sex scenes, and all the food looks horrible.
The "Tell me about an uncomplicated man" is a merciless roast 😆
Ooo okay. I haven't seen it but I did see the trailer and I didn't like it. Too action-movie (isn't the war over?) and not enough feelings and thoughts (what happened to the complicated man?) And why was all the lighting so blue and modern-looking??? Nobody was sitting around with blue LEDs or cold flourescents, they just had sunlight and fire.
But I am 2 books into Emily Wilson's Odyssey (which has been so fun to read, especially aloud) and I am now going to read this review because it looks highly entertaining.
Hey, man, c'mere. Listen. Get in real close, this is important.
You're gonna make stuff again. You're gonna make stuff you're proud of. You're gonna make stuff you're excited to share. You're going to feel that overwhelming drive to create, not just the frantic I want to want to you're stuck in now. You're going to have awesome ideas, and you're going to make them into reality. You're going to create again. You're still an artist. You're still a writer. You're still home to the same passion you had before. You'll find it again. It's not gone. It's just resting. Let it rest. You're going to make stuff again. I promise.
It’s true and it happens. Two year dry spell, then right place, right time, right person, right spark of joy… it comes together, I promise. I fucking promise.
And give yourself grace for the time you need to heal and grieve and grow in the meantime.
