“In the 4th grade I would watch the way the other black kids behaved and how unruly and violent it appeared to me and how they would harass me for being "black as coal and having black gums". I remember one day I had gotten tired of being bullied and I said " We are not the same; I'm African." I had to find some type of confidence.
