Just stumbled across your blog and am glad to see a fellow Neve fan. My question is what relationship of hers you like the most? Stuff like Neve/Bellara or Neve/Rana etc. Not in a ship context.

For example my favourite DAI one is Sera and Vivi bc of the banter etc. Just to clarify what I mean lol

- Lucanis about Neve

this line always really got me from both sides. Lucanis is an assassin who grew up being tortured (by his own grandmother) in order to kill people. his entire family save two are dead because of the world he lives in. he’s the demon of vyrantium and specialises in blood mages and venatori. he has seen some of the worst that people can be, even before being imprisoned. then he is imprisoned, due to the betrayal of his own cousin/brother no less, and tortured and being fed a demon who lives within him. after that, he gets to see his home occupied and potentially blighted. but even after all of that, he can hold neve in such high regard that he can begin to think that maybe not everything is horrible and awful.

then from neve’s side we have somebody who has basically no faith in others to the point that she keeps everyone held at a distance. she doesn’t think or expect rook to help her even at the very beginning of her quest line and regardless of whether or not minrathous is saved. she takes small wins over the big ones that don’t exist. i always imagine that for her it feels like being in a boat with a hole in and trying to scoop the water out with a bucket. she has generally little faith and yet she’s the very person who gives someone theirs.

in my current wip that requires absolutely none of this information: grew up the youngest of 6 brothers. she’s also far younger than said brothers, with the next sibling up being 13 years older than her. she has nieces and nephews older than her. she mentions family trying to use her to step up the social ladder, and that’s why she doesn’t speak to some of her brothers anymore.

she made friends and played games with stray cats because there were no children her age she spent time with. her parents saved money to buy her nice clothes so she’d fit in amongst other mages. she always took over her fathers crossword puzzles. in fact, she spent most of her inside not-being-friends-with-cats time doing puzzles quietly on her own.

nosiest kid you’ve ever seen. knows all the grown ups business from sneaking and eavesdropping. absolute eavesdropping professional at 5 years old. i like to think her mom was a gossip too.

she loves the stray cats so much that when spite takes lucanis over when they’re alone, he purrs to remind her of them (there’s a whole bit in this nevecanis wip examining how spite and neve feel about each other)
