the replacement of websites with apps sounds so backwards when you actually describe it. like hmm you have to download an entire program onto your device each time you want access to a portal, where it takes up storage indefinitely. somebody should invent an app where you can "browse" any portal just by typing in its address... ๐ฅด
EVERY time I hear a dumbass white person say anything about immigrants โcoming here illegallyโ my very first thought is that if it was perfectly โlegalโ for your European ancestors to come as a โstowawayโ ((YES, that was an option on immigration paperwork at Ellis Island)), no I do not give a flying fuck if someone walked swam skipped or jumped across the American border for a better life.
People in the notes arguing that this is about individual comfort and misgendering are missing a major piece of the puzzle, which is that programs made for mothers and pregnant women often by definition exclude anyone whose gender marker is not F on every form theyโve ever filled out.
Insurance agencies use M markers to deny coverage for pregnancy related healthcare. Doctors offices hang up on pregnant people trying to schedule pre- and post-natal appointments for themselves because their voices or their names arenโt feminine enough. And if they manage to make the appointment, they can get harassed out of the waiting rooms or face medical malpractice behind closed doors.
Charities and benefits made for pregnant or new mothers donโt accept pregnant/new fathers or non-gendered parents. The WIC fund is called women, infants, and children.
If we degender pregnancy and childbirth (and periods while weโre at it) we open up support for every trans and intersex person who needs it. We normalize pregnant people of other genders and sexes, leaving less room for harassment and malpractice and more accountability for those who decide to be assholes anyway.
Itโs not a-fucking-bout comfort. Itโs about safety and survival. This can literally be the difference between life and death for some people.

Sometimes Im so exhausted I NEED to nap. And I refuse capitalism to tell me that napping is lazy or unnecessary. NAPPING IS A NECESSITY. NAPPING HAS BEEN PART OF HUMANITY IN EVERY CULTURE FOR LITERALLY 99% OF HUMAN EXISTENCE AND IT IS STILL PART OF THE CULTURE IN COUNTRIES ACROSS THE GLOBE TODAY.
Humans are not meant to stay awake for 16 hours and sleep for 8 hours straight. This idea was literally made up in the 20th century from a man who obviously had a wife to do all the chores and shit for him. Before electricity was common, people used to sleep for like 5 hours at night, wake up for two hours in the dark to tell stories or work on things by the fire or candlelight, sleep for a few hours again before sunrise, and nap in the afternoons. Ancient humans also had natural morning and night people and this likely evolved so that humans could take turns guarding the tribe against predators at night.
The way most of western society sleeps now goes completely against our biology and traditions. Sleep is not something we should fight against or โoptimizeโ. Our biology has already figured out how to do it. What we are doing is wholly unnatural and makes us unhappier and unhealthier in ways we donโt even understand. We need to go back to doing whatโs natural and best for our bodies rather than what is best for our bosses.
Some parents, especially EI ones, act like courtesy is only for grown-ups. We would never dream of controlling our friends in the kind of high-handed way we use with our children. We probably wouldnโt threaten our friends to comply or else, and we wouldnโt announce we are all leaving right now without asking if they were ready. We would not remind our friends repeatedly of what they had not done right, nor would we withhold our love from them until they did what we wanted. We wouldnโt do these things partly because we know our friends would probably leave us if we treated them that way.

I feel like simply calling JK Rowling a transphobe isn't strong enough anymore. Like. This is not your grandpa calling you by your deadname at a restaurant kind of transphobic. This is her wanting to eradicate all trans people (with an extra special hatred towards trans women specifically). This is her trying just that by personally funding transphobic hate groups with millions to push around laws in the UK. It is not hyperbolic to call her a dangerous, genocidal maniac.
It's not about cancelling a problematic writer. It's about literally trying to save lives by denying her as much money and power as possible.

The new EHRC Code of Practice pushes trans people out of toilets, hospital wards, and community spaces. It normalises gender policing based on appearance and stereotypes. It becomes statutory guidance in the UK by the end of June.
Trans people are now legally their assigned gender at birth and must join gendered spaces accordingly, but if they are perceived as their lived gender, they can also be ejected from those spaces. The guidance says: either break the law, or donโt pass too well.
A mass lobby is where you invite your MP to discuss your concerns with you in-person. Ask your MP to:
Demand full parliamentary scrutiny, debate, and use their free vote on the EHRC Code of Practice.
Support any motions rejecting the EHRC guidance. As of June 4th, Labour MP Nadia Whittome has submitted a prayer motion - Early Day Motion 240.

Your MP does not have to be an ally, they do not have to respond to your email for you to show up and greencard them (details below the cut.) What matters is that as many people as possible show up.
I cannot stress this enough: Showing up in person matters. It is much more effective than petitions, emails, and letters.
It is a horrible, stressful time, and I am so sorry if you're trans and live in the UK. But I was at last year's mass lobby and the line for greencarding alone stretched around the back gates. It was a record breaking mass lobby and made us impossible to ignore. Let's do even better this time. Details under the cut:
Worried about what to say?
Bring your personal worries about transphobia being signed into law, and trans friends being excluded from public spaces. You are a living person who deserves dignity. Remind your MP of that. You will also get guidance and brochures from Trans Solidarity Alliance that outlines our demands. This is mine from last year.

Got a refusal or no response from your MP?ย
Come anyway! You can request a same-day appointment with your MP through a process called greencarding. They will come and see you if theyโre already in Parliament. Even if they donโt, theyโre made acutely aware of your cause because you showed up in person. This is my greencard from last year.
Here is the EHRC Code of Practice in full. It's a tough read, but some highlights are:
Organisations canโt provide trans-inclusive, single-sex services, or they risk being sued for discrimination.
e.g. domestic violence support for women including trans women, menโs rugby group including trans men (12.68).
Trans people will have nowhere safe to pee.
If youโre a trans man, businesses can't allow you to pee in the men's, and you can also be ejected from womenโs bathrooms if youโre perceived as a man. Vice versa for trans women. EHRC suggests a โthird spaceโ bathroom, which is discriminatory and unworkable for most businesses. (13.130-133)
Sports organisations must exclude trans people from single-sex competitions (13.73).ย
A womenโs only sports competition must exclude trans women because of their biological advantage or face potential lawsuits (13.74), but a trans man who has undergone testosterone treatment can also be excluded based on fairness rules (13.81).
Trans women are stripped of the legal definition of โlesbianโ, and therefore no longer have legal protections if theyโre discriminated against on the basis of sexual orientation. (2.50, 2.92).
