Second sketches. I stepped over to using containers in de virtual space instead of ships

My new idea is to place containers in the virtual space. The container have a reference to ships. Some containers will be opened so that the viewer can walk into it. In the containers the viewer will find some attributes (chairs, industrial tools, graffiti, etc.)

Sandy area to walk around in with rocks, mountains/hills and grass. Abandoned ship somewhere in that area. You can go into the ship where you find a room with some stuff in it humans have used. The ambience can be a bit scary. Play with lights to give that scary feel. 

First try outs on making a 3D space in Unity. I added a sand material on a plane that the person in VR will walk around on. It is a reference to the South Aral Sea.

Since this term we have some classes in Maya and Unity, I am now thinking of combining those lessons with this project. My first thought is to make a 3D room where you as a viewer can walk around in. The space will give you the experience of an abandoned place. 

Here are some examples of James Kerwin’s pictures of abandoned places. It looks like he mostly photographs ‘classy’ places. What I mean by that is that a lot of these pictures look like they are palaces, theatres or other ‘more expensive’ places. 

I googled on abandoned places and I found this photographer who photographs abandoned places around the Middle East. They are very beautiful and worth looking it!

The thing I find interesting about the abandoned places, is the questions behind it. Why is it abandoned? Why is it not used anymore? Why do I feel a little bit scared when I see these places?

This is the second collection of all the abandoned ships in Moynaq. 

There were a lot of images made and posted on google in the city Moynaq. A lot of these pictures contained empty and rusty ships. Maybe the water where these ships used to be in, is a side river of the South Aral Sea. Then these two places are definitely connected with one another. 

Kazaly looks like a normal city where people can live and are living. Though this building looks pretty abandoned to me. 

The city Bozoy seems to be the first city where people could actually live. In the pictures you can also see some people on their motorbikes. Does this point out that people come here with the intention on visiting the city? Or is this more of a city where you would take one fast drink as a little pause and then get back on the bike as soon as possible?
